You've misread his post, Rex. He is playing without music now. He wants to know why he has to, to get the game to run properly.

Ryuujin: it usually means you don't have enough RAM in your PC. Try killing every app you can before running EU, so it's the only thing running. Also check for updated sound and video drivers.

Andrew is correct. The "Running Problems" thread is for those having trouble running the game.
Using the "No Music" option from the Start/program group doesnt load any music files. This saves on resources and allows the game to run a little faster.
IMHO the game music grates after the 20th time played anyway.
Did you jnow that, once loaded and running, you can take the EU CD out and insert an Audio CD of your choice?

I have 128MB RAM. Shouldn't that be enough for a game like Europa Universalis when it works fine for all other games, including several games I'd expect to require a lot more system resources?

My sound drivers are the most recent, but they're still not very recent, so as to speak, so maybe that's it... Didn't know I could insert an audio CD, BTW, so thanks for the tip. Now I'll just have to see if I have anything suitable.

Its a strange thing but the "no music" option allows the game to run where otherwise it doesnt!
If you really like the EU music then you could download the MP3s from the downloads section and burn them to CD or load into a MP3 player.
I wouldnt bother though - I prefer Deep Purple etc......
