I am playing England in the Grand Campaign.

I start out allied to Spain (even though she hates me).

France declares war on Spain.

I try to declare war on France; it says I will lose 3 stability because I am the same faith and I do not have a Causus Belli.

If I do not declare war on France within a month or so, I lose one stability for having dishonored my alliance.

WTH?

Could someone please explain? Is it supposed to work like this?

That's because that's not how you do it! :D

when your ally gets DoW, then he might ask you to join in. This will appear as a little shield in the top right corner of your screen. You have 1 month to decide to join in or not.

He might also not want you there if he plans on making a land grab.

Same applies when you are declaring war, the game will ask you if you want to call in your allies.

cheers and hope this helps.

When France declared war on Spain your ally might have sent you a message asking you to join in.
It would have appeared as an icon on the top right of the screen. Unfortunately it is very easily missed.
Go to Menu/Options and then Message Settings.
Now look down for the appropriate message and set it as a "pop up" message.
Whilst you are there have a look at the other messages and set as you would like.

(Dang it, if I got a CB, I oughta have a CB...)

Actually, your ally got a CB against YOU for not responding to his request of you sticking up to your alliance threaty.

If your ally requests you aid him, you can join the war with no penalties... if you refuse, and then realise he's beating the crap out of his enemy and you want to share in the loot, you will suffer the usual penalties (assuming no CB.) You don't actually get Casus Belli for having an ally attacked.

You probably already figured this out by now, but I'm bucking for promotion so I need to post more. ;)

Hmmmmmmmm! Huszics - the links to your website doesnt appear to work. I keep getting "Connection Refused"?

The link works. However look at the text in my sig for the explanation why you don't get through ...

Its OK - seems my ISP was having a bad day! I got it OK with a stand bye.

Needed to print off the FAQs for a friend new to EU - was getting tired of explaining things every few minutes!
