France as GC. Leader-monarch Henri IV. As a leader, he died in 1590 (unlucky battle), but as monarch he ruled until 1610. So, for 20 years France was ruled by man who had been killed. Zombie-king. Scary or what :D Or just a ghost haunting in Louvre :)
Maybe there is some way to connect leader and monarch files. So if Henri dies, you get regency as well.

Things get really spooky if you have one monarch ruling 2 countries. Playing as Austria, Karl V died in 1521, having gone mad a year earlier. Meanwhile, Spain was ruled by Carlos I (the same guy), without any signs of madness, until 1555.

Or, how about this...Philip II of Spain was Holy Roman Emperor, he died in 1598, and the Regency of Austria became HRE. That must have been a strange election...

Perhaps the Austrians learned from the Floridians how to work an HRE election . . .

But you could interpret his 'death' as a wound that made it impossible for him to continue to lead armies, but didn't affect his ability to rule. So there isn't any need to go into supernatural explanations ;).

The message clearly says that your leader has died :) So i guess he is pretty much dead. If he would be seriously wounded, the message should say so.
And one more thing: Henry went mad, but that didn't affect his performance as general. No stupid orders, no ordering coconuts for christmas for his man, nothing. His leader abilities didn't suffer :)
Still, i must say that i was ruled by a man dead long time ago. This should be a case for Mulder and Scully :D

Spain in the game gets ruled by Felipe I from 1516 to 1519 while Felipe already was dead and buried for 10 years then irl. Bit much to ask for him to come back from the grave to rule his country for 3 years. Imagine what state he should have been in!

Obviously the madness was a case of multiple personalities and only one died off. :p
