I can't believe but it just dawned on me. Holland doesn't exist in 1444. Not only are they making the byzantines harder to play (kinda like though) but now my Holland is gone :(
Suppose I will have to start in their independance war :?
So what other nations are you going to miss with the 1444 starting date?

Easy: Start as Burgundy, move capital to Holland, adopt Dutch culture, form the Netherlands, release Burgundy.

Start as burgundy, release holland as vassal, save, load save as Holland. PLOT YOUR INDEPENDENCE!
Sliders/ideas will probably be based on the history files I guess.

1399 was way too early for a start. I always like to play the netherlands, but you could always start with Gelre or Friesland.

Hopefully we will get the possibility to continue playing as the released country, instead of having to save and reload.

Yea, the disadvantage of 1444 is Burgundy, I hate Burgundy with the passion of a thousand burning nuns.

even though those that you guys say are possible solutions, holland is to be missed at the start....i reckon, though, that i have sympathy for Holland, and it's a very fun country to play.

Yes, we all hate Burgundy. But its way better than starting in 1399. If it had been me, the game would start in 1470, at the earliest.

Why?Was there anything important at that time?IMO the game should start in 1453,after the HYW ends

Last crusade defeated by the Turks at Varna. Works well for CK2->EU4.

That's 1444. The question was about 1470.

OK well I don't do that whole release thing and I only play as holland XD
But again the idea of this post was to see if anybody else would miss something in 1444 that was there in 1399. I wasn't planning this to be a whole discuttion of how to release Holland or play as a different dutch nation XD

Oh, yeah, what did happen then?

Burgundy ceased to exist and the Low Countries were split between France & Austria in EU3.

I like 1453, thematically. Even in MEIOU, which pushes the start date back to 1356, I still prefer to start in 1453, because EU3 to me is about the Renaissance on. I like defining the EU3 era with the final fall of Byzantium.

I like defining it with the end of the HYW
