My LAN fails

This is probably not an EU2 problem, however all help is appreciated. I have a 2 computer LAN that works fine for file swap and some games. After installing EU2 v 1.4 patch on each, the multiplayer game failed when the older computer (P2-233) crashed to desktop (this computer will play the game single player just fine). I have directx 8.1 on each and Win98. Onr thing about directx 8.1 diagnostics is that even though is says directplay is working fine, when I click test directplay, I get a page fault kernel32.dll and diag closes.
Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

go 2 this site and see if it helps u also if u downloaded dirx 8.1 download it again and reinstal it to make sure that the file isnt corrupted. then try installing ur sound and video drivers over dirx. always install sound and video after a new install of dirx. as a last resort i would go to google and search for .dlls. and try installing them over ur current dll. MAKE SURE U BACK UP UR SYS FIRST. dlls do get corrupted over time. hope something works 4u. www.cnn.com/TECH/computing/9807/20/livingston.idg
