My Prussia Game keeps crashing

I searched the Bug Forum, but I didn't see anything that helped me with this*:

I'm playing Prussia in 1869. I just caused the North German Federation to form with the Zollverein thingy and Austria just created the South German Federation. I saved my game. Now the game crashes after about a month every time I try to play that savegame.

In EUII there was sometimes a problem with countries that no longer exist still being in the selectable countries list, but I don't see any of the old German Minors in there. Anyone have any other ideas?


*and you can't search for "CTD" since it's less than 4 characters

Does it crash on the same date every time or is it random, if you play a different nation, for a month or two, can you go back to your original nation and continue to play.

i got the same problem, tried the rename, killed all other apps...nothing helped.
The games crashes on the same date everytime with any nation

Just loaded as Prussia, crashed on May 13. Then I loaded as Greece and it crashed on May 3. So it doesn't crach on the same date and loading as another country doesn't work (at least loading as Greece doesn't)

I also tried copying the save file and removing all but PRU from the list of selectable countries. That didn't help. (I did not use this modified file for the Greece test above)

Was it also with Prussia in the same circumstances? I have a savegame from about 5 years earlier so I could go back to there and just not encourage the Zollverein if that'll work...

Oops, just checked and the other save was from over 14 years earlier and before two major wars (one with France, one with Austria) -- don't think I want to go through those again.

Hm, I reloaded a savegame from 1 year earlier and it worked. Guess i have to do all the work again

Start - Run - then type dxdiag, then run all the tests under each tab, then on the first tab select "save results to file"
Then post the contents of that file here.

No problems under DirectX (the most recent version), i´ve installed the newest drivers for my Video Card (GeForce 2 Mx/Mx 400, version 53.03) and the game keeps crashing on varios dates or actions (like clicking on the "Build Army" button)

I don't think the problem has to do with DirectX. I can play other scenarios and savegames just fine. It's this savegame that crashes. I've never had Victoria crash any other time.

Right. Ok, but the problem isn't with my system, it's with this particular savefile. I can play Victoria for hours on end and I've played past this date in an Italy game. My problem is with this particular savefile.

If you do not want to help me help you, and you insist there is no problem, only with this particular save game, then just start a new game and everything should be fine.

I didn't say there was no problem. There is a problem. There is a problem with this particular savegame. That constitutes a problem.

When I have had such types of problems in EU, I would post on the forum and typically someone would say something like "oh yeah, that's being caused by the game leaving countries that no longer exist in the selectable nations list" or something like that, I would fix it, and I would be able to continue my game. That's the kind of help I'm looking for. That's why I posted this in the General Discussions section instead of the Tech Support forum. The thread was moved here by a moderator.

You say I don't want to help you help me. That's not true. I just don't want to help you go down a path that I've already determined is the wrong path. That's why I'm letting you know that I have evidence that the system isn't the problem in this case.

"Just start a new game" is not an acceptable answer since the game says I can play until 1920. I want to play this game until 1920. It's gotten to be an interesting game.
