I think my tech advancement is waay too slow in my game as England in the GC...
I want to remedy this...
1 So far the only things I can come up with is building Manufaktories (but they cost me 2 full years of income :( as they give a research bonus and more monthly income which should translate to faster tech advancement if I'm not mistaken.

2 Gettnig more provinces so my monthly income goes up again, but after what I've heard this isn't too good since the bigger you are the longer it takes for you get the advance right ?? On that note does colonies count as provinces ? What about TP ?

3 Someone somewhere here on the board said you get tech bonus by having COT's is that true, and in that case what kind of bonus ?

4 Vassals gives extra monthly income too right ?

5 ?? Any other good ideas ?

Manufactories are great - give you +5 monthly bonus research - add to this the (theoretical) 12 ducats extra tax income pr yr, and you get 72 d back per year, so your investment will have paid back in 10-15 years. Absolutely love these - especially the ship and army manufactories (where advancement is quite cheap).

Grab the colonies with gold mines - they're huge income producers.

OK I'll have to bite the bullet then and save up for these :)

But the problem is that it seems that Spain has taken all the Gold Mine provinces I've found thus far (the ones in the Inkakingdom in Southern America).
And as Spain has 3x my fleet and 6x my army, I really don't want to take them from him :) So anyone knows where I can find nice unclaimed Gold provinces ?

There's one of them goldmines on the north american west coast (modern Maine, if I'm not mistaken.. north-westish). Monterrey or somesuch (I forget, I forget again.) The natives are relatively friendly, and I've never had it grabbed before me, and I usually don't start colonizing until at the earliest, 1600...
There's also one in the region of korea, however, the natives are rampant, and you will need to persuade them that your ravaging of the land is actually a good thing...

Those are my best bets. Good luck. May the force be with you.

Get 20,000-30,000 troops and a conquistador to America, and Spain is toast. Just make sure to take their aztec gold provinces (the ones with huge populations) in the first peace settlement.

If you can wipe out the initial spanish forces in America (not impossible), you can grab so many colonies and trade posts from them that they'll happily give you 2 provinces in the peace settlement (Don't forget to torch the trade posts before making peace either).

The gold province on NW American coast is only settled very late, as Jinxed says (though I've seen it settled by the 1580s).

Uhm... nice province. I
think I'll take it.

If I remeber correctly you don't have to invest more if you are bigger in size. Only in regards to stability applies that rule. The bigger your empire the more you have to invest to raise stability. the other advancements (trade, military etc) are 'set' prices

I think the real Name is 'Handelsposten brandschatzen' or 'Handelsposten niederbrennen'.

But remember if you do this, you will be no friend of those in the future. France and Spain now hates me (this means -200). But thats not so bad. Every 5 years a new war with spain isn´t very bad, because continiously new spanish colonies is o.k.

The more enemies, the merrier. Means I don't have to pay the +2 stability for declaring a war - unfortunately, my experience is that the game quickly reaches a point where the AI doesn't dare attack either me or any of my allies, despite it being set to aggressive. This is of course quite sensible, given relative strengths, but it also means there is little incentive to be nice to other nations (other than the 1-3 you want to keep as allies).
