Do you mean it's jerky/laggy? Try switching to the political mapmode. I think renaming the blink folder is meant to improve perfomace too, but you should as in the tech support forum.

Welcome to tech support!
Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

heh

y color depth is 16bit ... when i rename avi to avi_back game crashes when the mouvie is sopposed to start (when u are starting vicky) and the turning off things didnt work i hawe latest version of vicky ....and myn computer is strong enaugh for it cus it says recommended 800mhz 32mb graphicks 256ram .... i hawe 380 ram and 1000mhz and 32mb card soooo anyone heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

here i done my best ;)

That's the most likely cause of your sluggyness. You either don't have AGP, or it's not enabled. Together with a not too fast processor and not too much available physical RAM (you already have 135 MB in the page file when just running DxDiag), this will completely cripple the performance.

Unless you disable the terrain map overlay graphics, the game will completely saturate your PCI bus when drawing the map. Not to mention that it will require over 400 MB of memory, which you don't have. In the present setup, your hard disk (for the swap file) and video board are fighting over access to your PCI bus, slowing both down in the process.

Read the FAQ on the subject, lots of ideas in there.

Consult the manual or manufactor about the AGP settings if any you can use.

Make sure nothing else is running. I suspect you have things running in the back ground you know nothing about.

But the big tip jpd has found for low end systems is renaming the file "tiles.bmp" in the map folder of Victoria to "tilesback.bmp" obviusly without the quote symbols.

If you hit ctrl -alt-del. before you start the game how many things does it say are running?
