I don't get it, it's not very expensive terraforming them to begin with.
i just mean, thematically, it's weird i can't just colonize a nanite world as is, since i am nanites. but i get it from a balance perspective, so maybe just let me terraform from nanite to MY nanites directly. having to terraform it to a normal world and then eat it again to transform it BACK to nanite world is just very weird. thematically very weird. why would nanites terraform a nanite world into a normal world and then take another decade or more making it back into nanites?

When you do this, your empire is doing the equivalent of clearing a forest and planting a field where it once stood instead of trying to swap directly from oak trees to corn.

The wrong nanites are growing there. The mechanics imply it's easier to wipe them out to get a clean slate, then establish your own, rather than directly converting. Presumably wiping out the old nanites would also have collateral damage on your own.

The cost for terraforming at the point this would be an option is negligible, it would just be a small thematic bonus to the ascension.

i really don't understand what your point is here. i am not arguing to get rid of the cost. i'm arguing to get rid of the indirect nanite>desert>nanite nonsense and give me a nanite>nanite option. can even keep it in the terraforming menu, and just call it "hacked nanites" or something, and keep the same cost. even keep the devastation

I'm saying when the cost is negligible I don't see your point of not colonizing them directly for a balance reasons as valid.
i don't care either way, if they are willing to let nanite ascended robots colonize directly without terraforming, i'm down. i just assume they don't want to do that for some reason, so i gave a reasonable "compromise" solution if they have a specific reason they decided not to let me colonize the L-Cluster worlds directly.
