I would like to see a game, that has true "strategy" where you have the map, but you also can go to battles via a loading screen like in Total war games, and actually control the Brigades
Check this http://www.matrixgames.com/products/366/details/Crown.of.Glory:.Emperors.Edition out.

There really is very little strategy in games like Hoi and vicky, since you cant actually control the battles yourself.
Heh. Actually, strategy is ALL there is in HoI and Vicky. What they lack is TACTICS. And it's understandable, because they are grand strategy games not wargames (HoI is actually a mix of a grand strategy and a wargame). And I doubt that you'll ever find a WWII wargame that features battles at every level, because the scale of the conflict is just too large. That's why most games focus on a single (or two at most) level: strategic (like HoI), operational (like Operational Art of War) or tactical (like Combat Mission or Close Combat).

Forge of Freedom (Civil War Matrix game from about 5.5 years ago) took a stab at being all three. I thought it was successful and super interesting. I still am unsure why no one attempted to copy that format. The forum on that game is dead and even I do not play it anymore; shame, I thought it was the beginning of a new era of wargaming.

I know hardly anything about Napoleon, but because of HOI, I am really looking forward to this one.

Awesome video! Wasn't too interested before I saw it, and I even knew it was Clausewitz during Napoleon.

It seems like a really short time-frame, which I thought about Victoria also before I played it, so I'm sure there will be many hours per campaign as per other Paradox titles.

Are politics going to play a role? Will there be any difference in your options if you are a monarch, a despot, or a democracy?

I'm happy to hear that there will be other theatres such as in the Americas and Africa. How are those handled? We're not talking world map, right? Do they open in a window or are they just theoretical; sources of income?

Edit: And the possibility of a Vicky2 conversion? Either by P-France or modders, is it gonna be possible?

I really hope that NC2 real time strategical engine would allow some non trivial way to fight big and decisive engagements.
The right/center/left/reserve system is indeed a step forward, but some improvements must be made on how to deal with reinforcements and FOW.
EU3 just put new troops in the main stack not allowing for flanking/rear maneuvers which were the essence of napoleonic warfare.
If the engine can understand the direction of reinforcement this will allow player to lead separation/concentration of corps with variable and funny results. The player should be able to select roughly the time of arrival of reinforcements (maybe allowing for slow, normal, forced march stance).

They did this in CK2, so they might reuse some of the code. The tactical stuff concerning left, right, center didnt matter much however, and it had no reserve stack. it just calculates roughly on numbers and biggest army wins with damage somewhat modified by these tactical mechanics, so some refinement is needed so that troop type, and leader skills have some more influence on battles. In EU3:Rome they did use the oldschool system, but leader skill decided almost everything and it was too much the other way. So finding the best balance is the most important thing imo.
