While readin another post (this game/forum is gonna cost me my job) I noticed someone suggest always setting Army/Navy Main'tnce to min during peace and raising it during war.

My question is if the effect of lower main't is a lower moral in your military units, a)how low will the moral go - is it a set number if set to min & b) once you reset the maint to max, how long will it take your units moral to return to the max level - don't want to get caught w/the pants down so to speak.

And as usual, all input is appreciated.

Hail Whitehojo,

A) It shouldn't drop below diciplined. I don't remember if your tech level has any effect on how low it can go as far as going from Invincible to diciplined , Very Strong to diciplined ,or Strong to diciplined.

B)It takes about 2 months to get morale back up to max. (max being what your current tech level can provide)

Hmm, I think it only takes one month sometimes. Perhaps it depends on the tech level, ie higher tech => higher max morale => longer time?

My personale take is, lower naval maintainance but always keep 100% on Land forces.
Why ?
1) Naval maintaince is much higher per unit.
2) Naval battles can usually be avoided totaly for a few months until your morale builds up while land battles often starts imediately (thus your much more likey to be take off guard).
3) Sea provinces never ever revolt =)

how low will the moral go

50% Mantainance = about -25% morale

I always keep both army and navy maintenance at 50% when at peace. It only takes 1 month to go up to full, or even 1 day if you change it on the last day of a month. I think the penalty for low maintenance should be much harsher.
