Hi all. I don't intend to spam the forum with mini-questions and I've found answers to most things by searching. However, I need someone to help me with this:

1) Do ships use large amounts of petroleum? Playing as GB, I'm seeing a lot of my destroyers patrolling the North Sea and North Atlantic and I'm wondering if this is contributing to my massive oil deficit.

2) Is there any way to reduce the number of patrolling ships?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Sure. To both answers. Do you know how to look up the statistics & ratings for each unit? In there they give you the range as well as the capacity. It doesn't break it down by MPG tho. LoL Same thing goes with supplies, that's listed as well.
As far as units patrolling, you can do two things.
1) Have your defense minister reduce spending. That will cut down your active duty military as a whole and patrolling units.
2) If you don't want to disarm, than adjust your military branch's initiative to a lower level which in turn will give you more control of the units and what you want or do not want to deploy.
There may be other options, but I always have complete control over my military so my SecDef just does paperwork and controls nothing. =P

One can make missile and torpedo boats patrol. Instead of large ships. But, in real life, the Coast Guard is different from the navy. Missile boats can defend against larger ships, torpedo boats can also do the same. They have very significantly, small calibre attack guns, for smaller ships, and boats, like the navy had bigger such guns, also used for multi purpose naval combat. The larger ships can be used in the strategic pool. Submarines are significantly more costly to operate, than torpedo boats and missile boats, but not greatly. They can be used to patrol further, in nautical miles. They can passively patrol, scout, and be aggressive, too.

And allow me to add also that if you're going to set up your own patrols, try and make sure that you start them in your waters and pay attention to their range when setting their distances. When I first started playing SRGC I can't tell you the number of times I would have half of my fleet run out of gas and end up sitting in the Atlantic, waiting for me to send an oil tanker or supply ship to resupply them. It still happens to me a little now also. I might unlock OH Perry class Frigates and think to myself, "They're modern, theycan probablyly run for 8,000+ miles when in reality they run for 4500.
(I can picture my NATO Allies sitting on a beach in Spain, pointing and laughing their @$$es off as half of my fleet runs out of fuel before they reach the Azores.):laugh:
