There is a lot of help, and i thank eveyone who put up guides, to edditing the text files, what the stuff in the text files mean, etc. But I can no for the life of me find a guide on how to create the actual MOD directory correctly so that it works!

I can edit all the files in the default stellairs directory fine. In fact it works. I created a custome empire. It shows up. It plays great. However I can no translate my success in editing the files directly in to a mod folder/structure/dir or whatever I am suppose to do.

I have downloaded some of the mods form the workshop and tried to mimic them but just doesnt seem to work.

Any help in this would be great. A guide for "So you can edit everything but cant get a mod/file/dir to work?" type guide would be great. Or point me too a good mod too look at to try and mimic file structures, mod locations, how to name files, do i need to put everything form the vanilla files or just what i want to add. Arg!

To begin to "build" your mod is really easy. Just start the Launcher go to mods>Mod Tools and Create a mod. With a name and pathname for it. There you have your first mod folder with nothing in it and a .mod file.

Path should be Users/yourname/MyDocuments/ParadoxInteractive/Mod

Coming to the structure it is pretty easy. Look at the default stellaris dir. There you have a gfx, music, sound, localisation and more folders. Also there is your structure. The default structure is the same in the mods.

Default Stellaris:

My Mod:

I hope that helps.

I have gotten that far.

I found the creat mod tool in the game launcher. Did that.

Learned the file directory structure. Created that.

Copyed what I did in the main game file edit. Moved all my edits to the new directorys in the mod location.

New empire doesnt show up. (It does work if i put them back in to the main stellaris directory)

There is something I am missing? Naming structure of the files in mod vs the ones in main directory? I am cut and pasting what works in the main directory to the mod directory in the same locations as they are in the main directory.

I already build 3 new Empires and what I just did, was to create a new 00_prescripted_countries.txt. I called it, thanks to typewrite fails, 00_prescripted_counries.txt and this is working so far.

I'm having this exact same issue. There's some small thing I'm not doing right.

ugh, yeah I have tried pretty much everything but the empire does not show up.

And it is really frustrating because if I copy all the files back over the the Default Stellaris directory and overwrite the vanilla files it works.

Put it in a mod and it doesn't.

If I make a structure like the ones steamworkshop makes, but I do it manually, is that going to mess anything up?

It shouldn't, just make a good use of try and error. What I also did for some files, was just to copy them directly from default stellaris to my mod and append stuff in them.

Could you upload the actual mod so we can take a look at what the problem might be?

Sure, how do I do that?

well just next to the "post reply" button is a button called "upload a file"
If you press that and select the files is should attach them to your reply when you post it,

i guess that prob would be smarter sigh

Ahhh, i see the problem.
That "stellaris" folder you have in the "cockroachkingdom" folder shouldn't be there. the mod files should just be directly in the "cockroachkingdom" folder.

Like i did in my mod (the attached file)

ugh i just figured it out lol such a simple mistake too

damn you alreayd posted the fix sigh

thanks!

Sometimes simple mistakes are the hardest to find... (especially when they are your own :p)

I'll have to look into the samples you've posted and see if I can figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I can't figure out why mine won't show up. It's intended to be a simple mod allowing someone to select a human empire that only uses certain portraits.
