I think that's our best hope at the moment. Keep us posted as to ATI's response.

Okay Since I guessed right on the ghost version running I will take another stab in the dark.

Make sure you have selected small fonts in your display settings.

Also disable the music by running EU2 config program.

Can you also tell us what other things were listed when you hit the Ctrl-Alt-Del.

As I mentioned earlier, I thought I'd run it by the other moderators to see if anyone recalled having seen this in the past or in beta. Hartmann had wondered about other instances of EU2 running and here's an except from a later response of his...

I´m happy that I could help to at least find part of the cause, but .... *scratches head*

Alt-tab-del should give the possibility to terminate all "running" versions. Then, all apps (Zone-Alarm, A-virus etc.) should be deactivated, too. The CD-Rom drive has to be configured to have no autostart etc. even if he uses a version without CD check.

Every clicking on the exe will start EU2 even if nothing happens, so he will have to cancel the ghost version first before trying anything else. That is, no other tweaks work as long as a ghost version is running. I recommend to try everything he tried before, but this time he should always make sure there´s no ghost version running. Chances are, the "right" solution was already among the things he tried, but success was prevented by a running "ghost".

I only remember that I managed to get EU2 running once I found out about the issue with the ghost versions. Took me quite some time ....

Food for thought...

*crosses fingers and hopes it works*

Well, there has been a snowstorm today (monday), i wasn't able to get XP from my father (he lives too far away). I'll surely get it tomorrow (tuesday).

Oh oh....I think we're sending you another snow storm tonight too. Sorry about that. :(

When you do the XP SP1 install, make sure you follow that up with a Windows Update, install all "critical updates" and then also install any of the "recommended updates" that might apply to your system. I forget the name of it now, but there was one non-default recommended update in October or November that related to graphics errors in games. When I installed it on my system I had a noticable reduction in errors.

Windows XP kicks asses
Woohoo!!!

I can't begin to tell you how happy that makes me. I was beginning to fear that your case would be the first one that simply didn't have a solution. Very, very good news indeed.

I think you'll find that XP is miles and miles better than 98 was - waaaaay more stable, for one thing.

Anyway, thanks for letting me know that all's well.

Happy conquering! :)
