Hey all,

I thought the Nato campaign was a breeze (up to the last one, haven't finished that yet) but now I'm in the Russian campaign I find myself struggling.
Especially Russian fighters are a puzzle for me. They only seem to have very short-ranged missiles and aren't much good at AA (missile defence). I just got my @$$ handed to me at the "Land at Iceland" mission (no 4).

Can someone explain to me what the Russian fighters best loadouts are?

Thanks!

Ok, weapons first.

R-77: Medium range missile. Has a range of 80km at 5500kph. Active radar homing.
R-73: Short-range sidewinder equivalent. Range of 30km at 3060kmh. IR homing.
R-74: Improved R-73. Range of 40km at 3060kmh. IR homing.
R-27: Medium-long range missile. Range 130km at 4900kmh. Semi-active radar homing.
R-37: Extreme range missile. Range of 398km at 5500kmh. Active radar homing.

For reference, the AIM120D AMRAAM has a range of 180km. The AIM9X Sidewinder is 35.4km.

Obviously, the R37 and R27 are your weapons of choice, though the R27 is outranged by the AMRAAM somewhat. This isnt such a problem if launched from stealth craft, but on everything else that 50km hurts.

The aircraft and their roles;

Su-27: Only carries the R77 and R73, use this if you have nothing else for air combat, otherwise relegate it to naval or land attack. No chaff, only flares, so very easy to shoot down by radar guided missiles (ie AMRAAM).
Su-35: Carries lots of R27 in the regular air superiority loadout, though like the Eurofighter it trades these for useless short range missiles in LR AirSup loadout. Better than the Su-27, but still not comparable to NATO craft due to the shorter range missiles. No chaff.
Mig-29: Naval fighter. Mix of missiles, R77, R73 and R27. No chaff, so weak to radar guided missiles. Generally inferior to Su-35.
T-50A: Stealthy. R77 and R74 in regular AirSup loadout. Has alternative loadout with R37. Use it whenever possible. The no stealth config isnt worth it unless you really need the extra missiles for shooting down missiles or something. Has chaff.
T-50K: Naval T-50. Similar loadouts, but less ammo. R37 still a good choice.

Ive focused on the air superiority roles here, though if youd like a similar brief on strike loadouts and roles just ask.

some tips for mission 4 witch is pretty hard for Russia

I agree that R77 doesn't have much range compared to the West newer missiles like ones carried by the European Typhoon. Russian 4th generation fighters(like their Su-27) are outranged.

Was about to post the same.
Also, R-77 isn't operational in the Russian Air Force, it never was.
I think the Indians have it and maybe China (not sure), but the first active radar medium range AAM for the RuAF will be RVV-AE.

Well, to be precise, R-77 and RVV-AE are slightly different variants of the same missile. Radar of R-77 was developed in Ukraine and after dissolution of USSR R-77 couldn't be produce in Russia alone. RVV-AE is redesigned R-77 that is build from Russian-made parts. But I think that for this game these two missiles could be considred to be identical :)

And, BTW, in reality a new medium range missile is being developed for RuAF. Now it is called RVV-SD and it is based in RVV-AE. They announced first deliveries at 2014. They also develop a successor for R-37 and it is now called RVV-BD. Unfortunately there is little known about actual parameters of these missiles. The only thing I've heard from people involved is that they want to do away with "potato smasher" control surfaces on RVV-SD and return to classical wings.

Wings on missiles are a bit stealthier and easier to fold up when you are looking to place weapons in bays and not hang them off hardpoints.
Lattice rudders of R-77 can be folded. In fact R-77 was already designed with intent to be placed in internal storage of future stealth aircrafts.
The main reason of rejecting lattice in favor of traditional wings is that lattice induces more drag and makes missle to lose energy faster.
That as far as I know, of course.
