Hi folks!

Pardon me for my silly question, but how do you export/save your graphic files?

I mean, i know how to use a photoshop in general, but i haven't been able to use my stuff ingame and i know its my modified files that are to blame

I was making modifications to the clothing in the portraits section in photoshop, i used the same image size as the original and converted it to 256 colors.

here i am stuck, i am quite sure i did something wrong while converting..
what kind of settings do you guys use to successfully export your work from your program? when converting to a 8 bit depth, is there something i should keep my eyes on?

i'd really appreciate any help you can give me,

thanks!

You haven't really made it very clear what your problem is. But when modifying graphics, I "save as" in 24-bit BMP format. You'll notice that as long as you keep the graphics dimensions the same (32x64 for example) that the actual file size (maybe 32 kb) stays the same as the original. This is a good indicator you saved the file correctly and it should work.

I suppose i haven't made myself very clear, sorry for that

you actually fixed my problem, i was using 8 bit images and i guess i messed up the settings in photoshop, Using 24-bit bmp as you suggested, solved my problems :)

thanks!

Edit:

I guess i was celebrating a bit too early, as it isn't working... Modified pictures aren't working properly in game, i modified testface_misc.bmp by replacing a few garments, but i cant get it to work in game. Clothes aren't showing in game or if they are (if i use different setting while converting to 8-bit), heads disappear. I used both 8-bit and 24-bit bmp format with image dimensions unchanged.

Is there some specific color palette that needs to be used when converting testface_ image to 8-bit depth?

in the end i got it to work by cheating, i pasted my modifications over the original image, saved and it worked...

any ideas what could i also try next?

thanks in advance :)

I'm not sure what this 8-bit business is :p Normally I just open the file by right clicking it and selecting "Open With/Photoshop". I don't need to convert it or anything, I can just immediately make the modification, save it in 24-bit BMP and be done with it.

In the case of using palettes, I have no useful experience there.

Well, i noticed that these images (testface_namehere) are originally 8-bit, so i think any new image, made from scratch needs to be converted (indexed) to a 8-bit color depth, somehow.

i tried your approach, i started with new blank image, worked in rgb mode and saved as 24-bit windows bmp file. this way, modified files arent loading in game (modified content is not showing ingame, instead of seeing any garments, in my case, i see black background where there should be clothes).

Later on i made it to work by opening an existing testface image and replaced a few elements with my own. i saved and it worked fine. But i also noticed that this file retains its original 8-bit depth upon saving, thus, i conclude that these images need to be in 8-bit.

But i have no idea how to make my modified images to work in game if i start from scratch in photoshop.

Your approach really helped me in the end, as i got it to work by accident, while following your example. (the accident part was that i used the original image instead of my "from scratch" image as a base for modifications... sometimes it pays to work late into the night, hehe..)

thanks m8 for your invaluable help :)
