Try dropping your color settings to 16Bit. Also, I used to have this problem. It would load, as a process, but it would take a long time to appear on-screen. If your on Windows, open up ctrl+alt=delte and see if its even registering as a process.
Make sure you upgrade to the latest patch, set color depth to 16BIT and you may find two entries for editor in the directory. One may say new editor. that is the one you want.
