Okay, I have DV with the most recent patch.

How do I get new advance pop-ups? I've looked through the options and can't find anything about it (but I could have missed is) or is the advances pop-ups only vanilla CK? When I say pop-up, I mean like this -

In my game I only get a string of text floating above the county it appeared in, and I often miss them as I'm doing something such as a war.

This has been changed in DV, you no longer get pop-ups for inventions, sadly this is hardcoded. Since I was always pleased that my people finally knew how to name the flight birds, namely Chickens :)

Ugh, why do they insist on hardcoding things that don't need hardcoding... First Semisalic Primo for new counties and now for Advances. Honestly.

The change was made because it increased the performance of the game. Remember that CK was released in 2004 so that every change made in DV had to be able to run on a PC that was bought in 2004. So anything that increases the performance is a good things.

Semisalic primogeneture is chosen as the default law because this is the best law from gameplay point of view. Since this law makes it possible to inherit titles outside of your dynastie. If the default law would have been a salic law, you would never inherit a title from outside of your dynastie. And a whole part of the game (inheriting titles instead of conquering), would be useless.

These things are hardcoded because the old engine wasn't flexible enough to allow these things to be moddable.

Hmmm I actually think I got a screen like that during a war. War advance gained in "province x". I have CKDV. I think I got Hard Leather or something like that.

Hey, Veldmaarschalk, I don't suppose there's a version of TASS for just plain old vanilla CK with the 1.05 patch?

No, I used to have it on Filefront, but it has disappeared from that site. The orginal was on my old laptop, which crashed a couple of months ago.

You can discover military technologies when you are at war. That is a different kind of event and therefor you get a pop-up.

Would it not be possible to add real names and pictures to the tech-discovery and tech-spread events and remove the map = yes and tag = [whatever] fields and have them trigger as normal events? Or would that cause crashes due to the hard-coded nature of it?

You can of course redone the whole thing and turn discoveries into 'real events', but if that will work, I really don't know.
