Hi all,

Would love to join in some of the MP action going on down under, but have heard that one needs a fairly good ADSL connection to partake.

Would having 256/64 through Ozemail preclude me from playing?

Any input appreciated.

Thanks for the answer Major :)

I guess that rules out my current situation then. I am, however, moving to Brisbane in December. Anyone up that way play MP?

Also, I would love some input from other Aussie's who play multiplayer, and what connections they have and with whom. Hopefully you guys will have already sniffed out the good deals and I can jump on the bandwagon :p

Any input appreciated.

Hi :)

I'm on 1500/256 for $49.95 a month with TPG and I'm in Adelaide :) MP is a blast, I upgraded my connection just so I could join the group and it was well worth the money :)

poor lil lost kiwi

possible for a poor lil lost humble kiwi to join in as well, have 2 meg a sec connection so should be okish.....probs the only kiwi to play online hehe but you aussies are close enough.

Actually we alreaedy have a kiwi playing who stays up to 1.00am to play our sessions. You are welcome to join in any of our games. Although our regualar nights have been put on hold recently due to soem players being unavailable.

Yay! More Kiwis if we get enough maybe we can lobby to have it changed to ANZAC game :D

Also make sure u have ur modem able to join a game HoI isnt as accomadating as say Halo or Warcraft with setting up connections to games. You may have to set up I think its called a Demilitarized zone (DMZ) to join (I know I have to every week). It should be under ur admin page that gets set up on your desktop. But yeah be good to have you in one of the games

Thanks to Bumblebee for the info :)

I had a look at TPGs site, and it looks like they may have changed their plans, as I couldn't find the one you mentioned. Thanks for replying though, as it led to me doing a fair bit of research.

I am now in a much better position to judge the deal I'll get when I move. Looking forward to joining you all in a 1.3 MP game over the Christmas holidays

OK, looking to get a little more feedback from you guys.

I've decided to get 1500/256 ADSL at my new place in Brisbane. Im tossing up whether to go with Optusnet or iinet. Similair costs ($49.95 per month, setup fees differ depending on contract length), so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with either of these providers, either generally or playing HoI2 multiplayer specifically.

Any input appreciated :)

Our Host Mike uses iinet and finds them very reliable and probably the better of the 2 as far as an ADSL connection goes. It will not be too long before we start our new big Sunday game..up to 10 players as they are still using 1.2 and just finishing up a game. New game will be 1.3. Look out for when we advertise for players to play after you get your connection.

Yes i recomend iinet, they have been very good to me. Plus ask them about there ADSL 2 or DSLAM as most standard ADSL is currently being upgraded over this year and next so if you hook up with them you could get d/l's of up to 12000/1000 in the not to distant future. This is what im hoping for next year.

Thanks for the replies :)

I had a look at iinet's DSLAM update page, and my exchange isn't listed at all, so who knows when it will roll out for me.

Personally though, 1500/256 should do me fine for the forseeable future. I have an old Billion 5100 modem, so I'd need to upgrade that too to take advantage of the higher speeds.

Looks like I'll go with iinet, unless someone else posts and changes my mind :)

ADSL sucks get cable if you can, that way you don't have to deal with Telstra at all. Bunch of fuckwits telstra

Oh and I look forward to playing with you :)

ADSL will experience a few problems over the next year or two as there are massive upgrades going on around the country. ADSL will be far superior to cable soon by about 10 to 1. My ADSL is great superior to my optus cable i had before this. Remeber we couldnt even host hoi let alone play it on cable due to slow uploads.

Go with iinet ADSL or some other company in your area. But iinet is the 3rd largest after Telstra and optus.

Well, I made it :)

Unfortunately though, I ended up getting 512k / 128k ADSL through Internode. Nothing wrong with the ISP, but the missus didn't want to spend $50 a month on internet access, and I wasn't too keen on bundling my other phone services with iinet so I went with a slightly lower speed (and price) at this stage.

Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade soon :)

Anyone have any experience with playing at this speed?
Painful or doable?

From experience it might be painful. Although 128 upload is good and is the min for hoi 2. So just depends on weather 512k will cut it, maybe or maybe not. I suggest you play a minor nation in your first game with this connection so if it is a problem it wont matter to the group if you drop out.
