now, playing Ethiopia I got beaten by the Italians and they created a vassal state -> poof, game over, i´m out. shouldn´t I be able to go on?
when you are conquered the engine always quits (no matter if you are puppeted or annexed).
it has some logic, imagine that you are the HoS, if some other nation comes and puts a puppet in your place, well, you are removed from your charge.... :p :D

I was playing as Italy, chose to Annex ethopia and got a CTD. :-/
that's weird, i have annexed them all the time, and i never got a CtD...
please, check if that happens always...
that was one of the things that i tested more, because of the ethiopian freedom fighters that gave me a great headache :D

also, your nationality is.. ?

Im in the US, I have dual citizenship in Ireland and US.

PS: The event does work now. Rather odd. :)

It is my opinion that Egypt is WAY to technologically advanced. They are the same technology as Italy, and can easily over power them, and they have the ability to build transports, carriers, submarines, right off the bat. Now realistically, I doubt Egypt had the industrial capacity to build anything but infantry and maybe small ships.

well, i am not an expert in Egypt history, but, OHgamer yes (he was the responsable for Egypt), so, i expect he see this and answer your question. :D

i think, that maybe they should have some less land techs...

Crash

Uninstalled HOI from 2 PC's, cleaned out remnants, did a clean install, patch 1.03b, added CORE. Started handsoff games and just had one of them crash to desktop. This happens sometimes with no mods but thought I'd post here anyway. This is the last log entries:

1940-04-10 : 12:00 May 11, 1940 : Bulgaria had Capture of Paris Impresses Bulgarian Leaders .

1940-04-10 : 16:00 May 11, 1940 : Bulgaria entered a Military Alliance with Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, Yugoslavia, Argentina and Vichy France.

1940-04-14 : 2:00 May 15, 1940 : Communist China had Communist forces have seized power in Fuxin! .

1940-04-14 : 18:00 May 15, 1940 : Bulgaria sent 3rd Army Corps as a loan to Germany.

1940-04-15 : 5:00 May 16, 1940 : Greece entered a Military Alliance with United Kingdom, France, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Netherlands, Iraq, Belgium and Venezuela.

1940-04-15 : 5:00 May 16, 1940 : Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, Yugoslavia, Argentina, Vichy France and Bulgaria declared war upon Greece.

1940-04-20 : 13:00 May 21, 1940 : Lithuania refused to give in to Soviet Union's territorial demands.

1940-04-25 : 7:00 May 26, 1940 : Argentina annexed France.

1940-05-02 : 15:00 June 3, 1940 : Egypt went with Accept Alliance in Abdin Palace Coup.

1940-05-02 : 15:00 June 3, 1940 : Egypt entered a Military Alliance with United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Netherlands, Iraq, Belgium, Venezuela and Greece.

1940-05-04 : 16:00 June 5, 1940 : Egypt went with Request Britain to send aid in Activation of Anglo-Egyptian Treaty of Defense.

1940-05-04 : 16:00 June 5, 1940 : United Kingdom had Anglo-Egyptian Defense Treaty Activation .

Nothing more after the Treaty event, but I don't know if it crashed exactly then or later on.

Couple of other notes:

- The game was largely historical although Japan did not attack China in '37 (they DOW'ed ComChi in '39, also no Nomonhan I.). Election outcome obviously...

- 1936-00-01 : 0:00 January 2, 1936 : Bhutan had . Bhutan had what...?

- Spanish Civil War started 1936-06-17, ended 1937-04-11.

- Italian-Albanian War started 1939-02-25, ended 1939-03-04.

- Germany annexed Poland 1939-10-14.

- Vichy happened 1940-02-29.

- Italy annexed Ethiopia 1936-06-28. Is the following intentional? It seemed a bit rapid, ie annexation and independence on the same day 1936-08-25?!?

1936-07-07 : 8:00 August 8, 1936 : Italy had Ethiopian Freedom Fighters .

1936-07-07 : 8:00 August 8, 1936 : The people of Ethiopia declared independence from Italy.

1936-07-07 : 8:00 August 8, 1936 : Ethiopia had Ethiopian Revolt .

1936-07-07 : 8:00 August 8, 1936 : Ethiopia declared war upon Italy.

1936-07-24 : 9:00 August 25, 1936 : Italy annexed Ethiopia.

1936-07-24 : 12:00 August 25, 1936 : Italy had Ethiopian Freedom Fighters .

1936-07-24 : 12:00 August 25, 1936 : The people of Ethiopia declared independence from Italy.

yes, i have seen that with the Ethiopian freedom fighters.... it is that thing about "random=1" that i have already posted, do you remember? :(
sometimes they trigger very often... :(

the event about Buthan... well... it is a setup event that makes some leaders go to "sleep" ;)
before it said "Buthan had CORE Setup Event" but i removed just after making the beta public and i forget to add it again... :(

this problem:
"1940-04-25 : 7:00 May 26, 1940 : Argentina annexed France"
i have seen it sometimes, it is a problem that France does not defend their only province Cayenne, so they are annexed by the first nation that go there... :(
i added the out_of_europe.ai to change that, but that seems to work sometimes and not always....
They usually get annexed when they have some troops in Africa, so instead of garrisoning in Cayenne, they keep fighting in africa... almost all province have 0 VP in africa, so when someone gets Cayenne, they are quickly annexed... :(

about the crash, i have only one crash when i was testing with the US, but i could finish "quick" games (reach 1948) with Nationalist Spain and Turkey. :D

You say on the site you plan on adding the korean war. Are you planning on expanding core to a further date then?

And wont it be hard to represent China entering the war?

I guess I don't follow Africa so closely ;) but yeah, I recall reading that... Might be some quirky behaviour of the random number generator, let's just take a note of it when it happens and see if we can see a pattern.

There will be quite a few of those I'm sure, just so long as we get them reported and fixed it doesn't matter. Could we not use the AI_EVENT function to make it not appear in the log?

About France getting annexed, maybe there's an island somewhere we can give 1 VP? I've not really thought much about the problem before.

The crash was probably random, but let's take a note of any crashes just in case we discover some common factor (ie some event, some AI file being called etc).

EDIT: Saw another crash, 1936-06-20. Could be because my laptop can't run the game well on max speed, I'll reduce speed to see if that improves reliability.

Yes, Korea will be in. Preliminarily it will be a single nation created when Japan is puppeted or annexed. There will then be some events (Moscow conference etc) as appropriate to generate great dissent, which then trigger a civil war event - North vs South. Intervention events for the different great power will potentially escalate to an Allied vs Comintern war.

Nobody said it would be easy ;)

Egypt rationales in CORE

They are the same technology as Italy, and can easily over power them, and they have the ability to build transports, carriers, submarines, right off the bat. Now realistically, I doubt Egypt had the industrial capacity to build anything but infantry and maybe small ships.

On Egypt, I based my tech for them on Greece (and Turkey), so either Greece is too advanced in its tech in HoI or Italy is too behind in its tech level (perhaps this is why in 1.03 the Italians have about as much power as a wet paper bag...) The knowledge to make prewar military hardware was widespread in the Eastern Mediterranean, so the ability of a nation like Egypt to make prewar tanks or airplanes or submarines would have existed in real life had the government of the time chosen it - in reality it didin't because of the belief the British could guarantee Egypt's security, but the options to do it existed. The industrial capacity is based on comparison with Turkey, and reduced by approximately 1/3. The goal was to make an Egypt that was a viable country to be played - and since there is no real way to reflect the source of Egyptian wealth, the export of cotton, that could have been put into military development if so chosen, then it has to be given some coal/oil/steel to make it viable. Egypt did have (and still does have) a small oil industry, and there was some industrialization in the Nile Delta. Coal was obtained in small amounts from the Upper Nile Valley. The quantities I have assiged to Egypt in this mod perhaps are a touch above historical reality in this period (again to make up for the inability to replicate the wealth generated from exports of cotton), but it is clearly not in amounts that would make Egypt equivalent to any of the major powers (again I think the problem is not too strong an Egypt, but too weak an Italy) and in the game I have played the best Egypt can get is four armoured divisions (with prewar tanks) and maybe a couple cavalry or a fighter before the end of 1939, and that without any research into tech and no improvement to infrastructure. Not exactly enough to get the Egyptians to Rome, but perhaps enough to tip the balance of power in the Mid East at crunch time.
