That's a very useful side-effect. Yet another thing to like about the SR change.

Minor bug

I think this is a HOI vanila naval bug but I'll mention it here.

Played Italy CORE .62.

Went in to look at UK in 1943. She had lost her navy early on and as Italy (allied) I had supported her with my navy and convoys of supplies and materials to her.
Her convoy lanes were in big trouble, almost 50% with no ships. She had build 230 transport flotillas in Portsmouth but never reallocated them to transport duties. She also had exclusivly transports in the build que, 36 of them.
Also note that the transports were using up 200+ supplies a day. Which I think is a lot.

Conclusion
The AI knows what it needs (transports) but has no idea how to redeploy them on convoy duties.

:(

Yes, you've got that right, Budgie. It's a screw that is certainly seen in all big convoy-dependant nations (especially UK, Japan, and USA).

Ummm...I just finished an amazing game as Germany which I really enjoyed.

I had difficulties in Poland '39 because I hadn't built really any units. But I clocked France into surrendering in three weeks as 50 odd Waffen-SS Mech units were available for that offensive. England fell next, although I haven't been able to "officially" puppet them yet. Then yugoslavia to the italians and hungarians, and bulgarians...

Then I invaded the Soviet Union, did it right...caught 30 or so divisions in a pocket and wiped that out and then I marched right into All three major cities by september and had peace with them by december.

Then something odd happened. as Germany I had been extremely anti-Japan...and now the U.S. was at war with them and not at all wanting to go to war with me. (20 or so points away from war entry). So I decided to ask them into the alliance as a joke. AND THEY JOINED. A Liberal government joined the axis against the remaining free world (colonial possessions of France and England plus the common wealth...).

Is that supposed to happen :)? If so....ummmmmm...there are some realism problems :).

Well, welcome to the joys of the HoI diplomatic engine. In your particular case, having run amok in europe, the USA probably had a leaning towards a strong ally against Japan. With the UK effectively out of the fight, and Japan not Axis, you have the "normal" chance for the USA to accept the alliance offer. You got lucky and they accepted. Don't expect this every time out though. The algorithm came up with that 1/150 chance this time.

That reminds me of my current soviet game, in which I simply influenced the crap out of USA and they joined the Comintern in 1938. What a fun game. :D

Well, I guess it isn't completely in left field. Germany could be angry over Japan's possession of ex-german colonies.

With the soviet union at like 50 I.C.'s or whatever they have left they are in no position really help them. India is being overrun by the german sponsored persian armies.

And U.S. doesn't seem to really have done any damage to Japan. Well, it is only december 1941.

I don't like it though because I wanted to nuke the hell out of the states. :) Only in the game, if I offend any of my american friends :)

USSR (speaking of which)

Just finishing playing USSR up to summer 1940 when I got hit by Germany, Italy, Japan, Manturia, and all the little guys.
34 German divisions took out a 20 division army in my main fortress line at Smolensk and I had no reserves...

I hit the computer reset button in disgust.

For my sanity and to save my computer from having a coffee poured deliberately into it's cpu. I'll be adding events to get German offensives back a little closer to historical reality timelines.

hummm...

Installing CORE...

Do I need to install the banner and pic files, as indicated? I get a maximum bandwidth exceeded - try again later, or some such message. I tried right after midnight, no luck. Is this a monthly limit, a daily? Can I install CORE w/o the files? Anywhere else to get them?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, the CORE forum looked more like a place for suggestions...

The Discussion thread is the best place for these questions :) If you take a look at posts from the last few days in that thread there you'll find a download link for the files you are looking for.

Regarding the roadtowar.com site, it's a monthly bandwidth limit and the site will be available tomorrow.

is this right?

took from the official CORE page:
C.O.R.E v0.62 patch
Download the patch from any of these locations:
- CORE Server - Provided by Procer, unavailable until 1st November
- Steel's Server - Provided by Steel

Size: 1.37 MB

Release date: 19 OCT 2003

Software Requirements:
- C.O.R.E v0.6 patch
the soft requirements are the patch v0.61 or the beta installer?
it is not clear there... ;)

Oops, sorry, did not mean to post here, had meant to post one level higher with a new thread. I downloaded the v0.62 and v0.6 w/o problem (from the alternate site?) a day or two ago....I just can't get the banners/pics and am not sure it will work w/o them. I will try tomorrow and do my little bit of damage to the bandwidth.

v0.61 is not needed. Pictures and posters are not needed and *hush it's a secret* unless my recollection is wrong the leader pack isn't needed either. Basically IIRC then C.O.R.E. v0.6 installs all the new leader and minister files in the ..\mod-CORE\db\ sub-directories so that C.O.R.E. games will work even if the zip file installations were messed up.

It was included in the pre-reqs anyway as a way of minimising confusion and to maintain compatibility with vanilla HoI for those who play both. :)

Actually, you did the right thing posting in an existing thread rather than starting a new thread which would have been moved into this thread by Skyo. When in doubt, remember to not start a new thread, it will just be assimilated ;). MDow

Yeah, ive heard that bug too. It seems like a hardcoded ai bug. Is it reported in the Paradox bug forum? It's really an important bug, IMO.
