re: tech trees and land doctrines, etc.

If I may express an opinion which I think is shared by most CORE fans - please do not reduce the intricacy of the tech trees and unit lists in an effort to streamline the game as CORE marches towards 1.0. This 'flavor' is greatly appreciated, and in fact makes the game much more fun. For example, I would be comfortable with TWICE the # of techs we currently have. All the detail is like icing on a cake, so please don't simplify or reduce.

Just my opinion.

Is 0.72 on hold pending 1.06?

Not really, a lot of 0.72 material is ready to test (not too mention 0.8 discussion/concepts/modelling).
It appears that most of the group members had some real life activities that slowed down our modding effort. I'm for example on the MS W2K administration course right now. ;)

Hmmm, twice the naval tech tree... :D

Probably not doable. I will have to make the nuclear tree eight times bigger to compensate. :D MDow

Just a question about "new advanced coal-to-oil conversion plant opens" tech. It seems to be random, but could you tell does every major country get in every game (i seem to get) and if not, what is the percentage of this event happening?

It's pretty annoying when you have spended 15 IC every day for years for industry techs and then you notice that you would have got all of those techs for free :(

IMHO this is very bad event and I hope it's removed soon. Major countries can easily research industry techs very early even with out these events.

I believe it's a random thing, dependant on how many techs you have along the proper path at the time. i could be wrong though. I've only gotten it about once every five games or so, and with nearly every nation I've played.

Yes, it's random event. What's more, it got same chance (read - very low) to happen as any other random event, like war refugees, spies, random research, strikes, banning communist/fascist parties, military parade and so on.

In original version it used mayor = not trigger to ensure, that it will fire only for minor nations, but since this trigger doesn't work... :(

Just think of it as "random research breathrough" event - totally unexpected gift.

No, but my manager is due for a beating for committing me to deliver a technical document on short notice without consulting with me about the amount of work required. I also only narrowly escaped flying over to North Carolina for a week to train our US colleagues, one of my co-workers flew out this morning instead... Nothing against the US, but business trips are a serious disruption to modding. Anyway, workload should now hopefully drop back to normal 50 hours/week levels and I'll be able to catch up with things here.

If you get a chance to come to the DC area do it, I'll show you around.

I found a good/serviceable prop poster for Liberia:

And here's one for Persia (it's a Time cover but are there are many prop posters being used for a country but where not made in that country. Ethiopia for example)

Just wondering ... after the release of 1.06 patch how much time do you think will take to release a compatible version of core?

usually 1-3 weeks but this appears to be a major patch so it may or may not take longer then that.

Just like ghost_dk said, it all depends on the scale of changes.

I guess first version after the patch will be just "compatibility release" - basically 0.71/0.72 material with all neccessary adjustments, rebalanced to work fine with new aspects of game. Few weeks, maybe earlier...

Uff, 1.06 has a lot of changes. We'll have to revise carefully some events, specially those that used 'leave_alliance' command. Arg, and of course leaders/ministers ids, that's the worst part IMO.

Also, the new adjustment of movement and other penalties may affect core's balance.

Wow, it seems that ai guys will have a lot of new toys to play with, PhilK is going to be very happy when he comes back :D

Now I really hope a 1.06 compatible/balanced version of CORE will be out soon since I can't wait !
I agree. :)

Im realy looking forward to play 6.0, but need core, cant go back to the old tech tree and loose all the other goddies in core. Any of u beta testers have experience with how well 6.0 works under current core?
