Hello, everyone. I just created a new forum game, but it is going very slowly so I wanted to ask you, what you would like for a forum game. I would like to do a role playing game but what would you like to see in it, and in your opinion what nation should the setting take place? I was personally thinking a Yugoslavia one but did not know what date I should start or any ideas. Please give your opinion and feedback, I would really like to create a game for people to enjoy. Thanks.
Look at the games that have a long history, see what they are doing, and figure out how that would fit in with a game you would enjoy hosting.
Then just do it.
If it works, yea!
If not, learn from it, adapt and try again.
All it costs you are some time and electrons, and time is infinite.
But to answer your question, I kinda like forum games that are built on a real game system,
and not just a collection free-form philosophy treatises between players that boil down to 'did to', 'did not' exchanges.
I think it would be better if you did it after yugoslavian break up during the civil-war where the players get to choose one of the nations and some others choose powers like the USA,UK etc. who can't interfere expect but support and send supplies/soldiers to a state

Have you considered something like an African state just becoming independant (or having just overthrown a dictator)? Either a real country (like say contemporary South Sudan, or Ethiopia in the 1990s) or a fictional one (there was a forum game called Mumbambu quite a while ago.)
Hmm, I think I will have to add the lessons which I have learnt GMing games here. The most important of these is: Keep it Simple. Do not overcomplicate your forum game, you will regret it. Furthermore, do not take on more work than you can cope with, especially long-term.
