I never said I was for or against the idea. I'm quite neutral towards the idea.

I disagree here. There's nothing that says Sengoku 2 couldn't branch off and become its own thing design-wise. The East Asian setting is sufficiently different enough to Europe and the Near East that it would likely benefit from being a separate game and not being constrained by the mechanics of CKIII. That was one of the arguments against a China expansion in CKII.

Besides, how many Paradox fans are also Weebs? They'd totally buy into a Japanese themed game hook, line, and sinker.

That's not really Paradox's thing.
I see, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree then.

That's not really Paradox's thing.
Not anymore perhaps, but older HoI games always had their scenarios, where you'd fight the war on an specific front and only there.
So there's precedent.
But seems kinda far fetched these days indeed.

Deep in my heart I still mostly hope for a proper cold war/modern day GSG, with economy and diplomacy being the main factors but also a decent military system as well. Basically a balanced mix of EU, Victoria and HoI mechanics. That's as far as my dreams go though...

Realistically I hope for Victoria 3- after so many hours sunken in other Paradox titles I wouldn't be excited for any other game.

I think a Cold War game will happen eventually. I mean, East Vs West didn't fail based on the premise, but due to Quality Control problems.

Paradox was more than willing to put their stamp of approval on a Cold War game.

Also, I don't think a separate Modern Era game would be all that necessary. With enough design flexibility the mechanics of a Cold War game would work well in representing the Modern Era and if such a game doesn't extend to at least 2020 (it should, there's no reason why the Cold War couldn't have lasted longer, indeed, the end of WARPACT was a surprise to many policy makers in the West.

I also hope that launching nukes isn't just a genric "Game Over, you lose" moment. There should be severe repercussions for pressing the big red button (such repercussions would be diplomatic in nature, also dealing with the aftermath) in order to dissuade you from pressing it, but pressing it should transition the game from one about preventing Global Nuclear War to one about dealing with the aftermath of Global Nuclear War.

Victoria II was my first Paradox game. It all started with this game. My interest in history in general, in Grand Strategy Games, and in other Paradox titles as well. For me, Victoria II is the game in which Paradox best expressed in terms of mechanics the period it wanted to represent. So I really hope this year's announcement is Victoria III.

I'm sorry If I missed something important, But I cannot tell why this is not a bigger deal.View attachment 692104

Right here, on PDXCon's Remixed website, PDX committed to announcing brand new Game in less than 90 days!

It will almost certainly be a Grand Strategy game, and I honestly only see one possible option. Paradox launched two new GS franchises in the last five years (Stellaris & Imperator), and EU and CK and HOI are not ready for a new addition yet.

It has to be Vicky 3.
Nope it will be the first mobile Game by paradox "Imperator: Leviathan" by Johan.

I am beyond furious by what you said, despite the fact that I know it's a joke.

I just hope the remark about a "Secret game" ends up being V3 or something vaguely along those lines, rather than a teaser for a new spy RPG.

They literally said it was going to be a GSG of some kind.

shouldn't teasers start around now ? the announcement is in a week
I think (note that i can't find the source again, so take it with a grain of salt) BjornB said they want to make it a real surprise and therefore they seem not to want to make any teasers this time around.

All they've said is that it's developed by PDS, the genre was left up in the air.
PDS has literally never made anything other than a GSG (though some would call HoI more a war game and I don't know what to call March of the Eagles, but they're obviously of the same stock as GSG regardless).

Well, they aren't mutually exclusive, to me HoI is a grand strategy war game.

I think it's more that they're all grand strategy war games and HoI just has less grand strategy elements. I don't know, it's not my opinion, just one I see sometimes.

Point is all they've ever made is stare at map and click the giant man with spreadsheets games. Reasonable to think the same will apply to their next title.
