When I start a new game, I can get to the map, however, the screen is frozen. Oddly enough, when I click buttons, I can hear the sounds they are supposed to make. It appears that the game is running as it should, I just can't change the screen. If I click on a country or the back button, the game crashes to desktop. This only happens for 1.3 and later. No mods, no dlc. (Punic Wars DLC is missing from launcher). Tried clean re-install, no luck

Are you on a Mac with an Intel video system by any chance? If so I'm afraid this is a problem on that hardware, which is not supported for this game. You can try disabling Map Objects in the game's video settings menu.

If the situation is otherwise though let me know.

My CPU runs Windows 10, it's not a Mac. The game runs fine on 1.2, so I don't know what the issue is

Just to make sure, I tried disabling Map Objects even though I don't use a Mac, no success.

Do HOI4, Stellaris and CK2 work okay on this machine?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Imperator/pdx_settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/Imperator/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

CK2, EUIV, VicII, HoIIV, Stellaris, City Skylines, and Prison Architect all run absolutely fine on this machine, I've never had any problems with any of them. (Except that one time my brother deleted Steam, but that's its own issue)

Here are the files you requested. I don't get notifications for this forum, so I had to manually check, sorry for being late.

Ever since my old graphics driver stopped updating 5 years ago, I've been trying to find a new one that doesn't tell me that my computer can't handle it. I have known about the broken driver for years, and I can't thank you enough for giving a link to a driver that actually works. Sadly, updating my graphics driver has somehow turned my audio driver off, and now run into the same problem. Although the game now runs as it's supposed to, I'd love for some assistance in finding a new audio driver as well, as now my computer is completely mute.

Um, I think that's pretty unlikely ... ! They are, or ought to be, completely unconnected (AMD vs RealTek).

You could try uninstalling the existing RealTek driver and rebooting; Windows will detect the hardware with no driver and offer one to install. Hopefully that will fix that!

I'm not actually a Windows support professional, but I'll try.

In the Windows search box enter Device Manager, and open up that utility.

Click on "Sound, video and game controllers". Do you see a RealTek device in there? If so what is in its Driver tab?

That was the first place I checked, I was pretty sure it was supposed to be there. But no, there isn't a RealTek device in there. I restarted thinking that it would install a new one, like you said, but no such luck. I've tried downloading a new one off of Realtek's website, but after a long wait, it simply doesn't appear in the device manager.

I would contact Windows support, but in the few dozen times I've ever done so, I got no answer whatsoever, save a bot telling me to wait.

I've gotten more help from you in this thread then every single support thread I've ever run ever.

The only replies I've ever gotten (save from other users) was a Steam Support Key after my account was locked down after my Dad's boss told Steam that the purchase Dad made for me wasn't authorized. (Ironically enough, the purchase was Imperator: Rome) But all they said was "contact the person who filed the complaint' over and over again.

So, I'm sorry for asking you to help me on something outside your area of expertise, it's just that you're the only person whose ever helped me...

I begin to suspect you have a hardware problem in the audio area, to be honest. Normally I'd point you to the vendor's website; I know the RealTek site is a nightmare to navigate but you might look for the latest RTKVHD64.sys installer you can find.

Alright, following a Microsoft support tutorial, I used the "Add Legacy Hardware" command to reinstall my computer's original Realtek 2013 Audio Driver. No such luck, but at least the computer had an audio driver. I then noticed a warning on the driver, went into properties, and found out that the driver simply wasn't on (Code 10). I searched for other drivers with the issue, and found under the "System Devices" tab that there were two "High Definition Audio Bus" that had errors, a "Code 19: Corrupted Files." I uninstalled the two buses and uninstalled the 2013 Audio Driver and rebooted. After the reboot, there still was no sound, but two "High Definition Audio Controller" were installed, as well as a 2016 Realtek Driver. A little bit of patience, and voilá! my headphones began outputting sound again. I don't know what the issue was, or why the AMD Graphics Driver caused it, but I'm glad to finally have my sound back.

P.S. My computer didn't even have a RTKVHD64.sys file whatsoever. Installing a new one didn't fix the issue, and I don't know what it is or why it was missing.

P.P.S. Thank you so much for all of your help! As I said previously, I've gotten more help from you than all other support tickets combined! I'm a huge fan of Paradox Interactive's grand strategy games, and look forward to the release of Crusader Kings III.

Farewell, and once again, thank you

Well I'm glad you cracked all that by yourself as I would never have thought of any of that .

Well done! All the best.
