After the recent release snafu, we are back with a new version - The first of of the year, hence named 2021.1.

Changes
  • Some pretty big layout changes to the navigation of the launcher - Hopefully things will be easier to find for new users
  • Technical upgrade to remove blockers in the preparation of MacOS ARM support
  • Renaming a playset should no longer throw errors, and hence stop polluting the logs with non-errors
  • Fixed the "eternal DLC verification" bug when running the launcher from paradox distribution (i.e not from Steam, Epic, Microsoft etc.)
With the layout chances there has been some refactoring across the launcher code - If you notice any regressions, please let us know.

The launcher appears to be having some issues for me, all of them, especially Hearts of Iron 4 and Stellaris' are having issues where after I load it, and go to the Mods section, it doesn't show any Mods and acts as if I do not have any, but I have a few from the Steam Workshop.

Disconcerting - Are you looking at the "All installed mods" section or the "Playsets" section? Have you tried the "Reload installed mods" button by any chance?

Hm, that's not how it's supposed to look - This is how it's supposed to look (my machine 34 seconds ago):

So it appears we have something to investigate!

Just to make sure we get a clean install - Would you mind uninstalling the launcher and re-running the game to update directly to the latest version? (see below)

How to fix your launcher
If you have a launcher that seem broken, the easiest thing is to uninstall the Paradox Launcher and then start your game anew. A launcher version will be installed and subsequently updated to the latest available version.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled it again, and after loading it, it seemed to bring it back to the new launcher but with the same issue as before, the Mods section isn't really there.

Unfortunate, but at least we can rule out one source of errors! We have some people looking at what might be glitching and causing your launcher to look "not right" - Hopefully we can get a reproduction. In the mean time, what OS version are you using? Any antivirus?

While not a fan of Launchers per se, I will have to admit that you are steadily making improvements. I really like the play set feature. What I don't like is the ongoing failure to load mods.

Thank you for your kind words! Finding the source of the failure to load mods is really hard, as everytime we ask, we get 12 different behaviours desrcibed by 10 different players.

In your case what is the exact behaviour of your launcher, and (if you have them) do other PDS games exhibit the same behaviour? Also, are you running any AV software?

I did a few experiments right now and I found a way to reliably trigger one incarnation of the problem(I'm using kubuntu 18.04 in case that matters):
  1. unsubscribe from all mods
  2. delete "launcher-v2.sqlite" and all files in the "Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/mod" folder
  3. start the launcher & exit it again
  4. subscribe to a mod on the steam workshop (I used Simple End Date Changer, because it is tiny)
  5. wait for steam to download the mod
  6. start the launcher
  7. click on playsets (the mod should be there and automatically be enabled)
  8. exit the launcher again
  9. unsubscribe from the mod in steam
  10. start the launcher
  11. click on playsets (the mod should be there, with a red triangle and the message "This mod is not present on disk.")
  12. exit the launcher again
  13. subscribe to the mod in steam again
  14. wait for steam to download the mod
  15. start the launcher
  16. click on playsets (the mod should be there and still be enabled)
  17. look at the "Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/mod" folder and notice that it doesn't have a .mod file
  18. click on home and on play and confirm that the mod is not active (the checksum in the main menu is still "5d62" and in case of the simple end date changer clicking on single player and entering a year after 1821 and confirming with the return key makes the date jump to 1821, but not beyond that[if the mod would be active, dates till 9999 are possible])
Probably not all of these steps are necessary. And there is at least one more way to trigger the problem(by just deleting a .mod file for a subscribed mod), and I guess that there might be more bugs or circumstances which might cause the same problem.

Now this is actionable data! Much love! ♥

Is there any info on the beta build? 2021.2.2-rc. I don't really see what changed.

did you change the warning about older mods? or was that done earlier? Good change

Mostly cosmetic bugs but one major change - Upgrade of the Electron version used. Full release notes, of course, when it goes live on the main branch (which shouldn't be too far off provided we don't get any alarming bug reports from you guys!)

It's automatically downloaded when you start the launcher. If you see 2021.4.1 in the left hand corner you've got it.

So I was sent over here to ask about feature requests for the launcher, but it would be amazing if there was some way to either fullscreen or otherwise resize the launcher as, for me I have an understandably large number of mods and anything to reduce the scrolling would be nice. Alternatively, if this is a feature already, then please let me know how I can use it!

Thanks!

Hi! We have had this requested several times, and it is already in the backlog - Unfortunately we are a bit constrained on the UX side, so it's unfortunately not going to happen in the immendiate future, but "re-sizeable launcher window" is a thing that will happen eventually :)
