FAL,

Are we set on using Kasperus' map?

I don't see much in Europe that's better about it, except possibly the size of the British Isles, and a lot of things seem questionable compared to MyMap. Fewer provinces in Asia and the Middle East, for one.

And MyMap has a whole team behind it.

What about a map that was an enlarged version of Europe only (and possibly North Africa/Middle East)? It would allow for a far greater number of European provinces, more warfare, no boring colonization, and the like. Imagine the Napoleonic scenario there... :D Obviously it brings about the problem of simulating the colonizing nations and giving them the home advantages they got from their colonies (Spanish gold etc.) but like I mentioned the possibility of Napoleonic or other Europe-only wars is a pretty good one.

by the way, i digged up Italy map of 1490, i have to say that Casperus map + Ryo scen gives it exactly like it was, absolutely proper detailed.

Well, that could be simulated by for example putting provinces that are surrounded by PTI on the edge of the map and let each of the colonizing nations own one. Then they could choose events, such as Spain going for the Aztecs etc. and according to these events, the provinces would change in value.

Like that idea VERY much, but i feel some people wont like it :).

I remember reading about the mountains of northern spain and how they presented a near impassable border in the EU period. Armies found it impossible to cross either side which is why french-spanish wars were usually in flanders, italy etc. There are some exceptions and by napoleonic times they did make a large scale invasion. Perhaps simulating this would be interesting for the game?

What are your thoughts on an Asian game, incidentally?

everyone will want japan :)

No, I listed both maps in the first post of this thread to start the discussions which one we could use.

I liked Kasperus' map more, but that's just an opinion.

However, Ryo has made a multiplayer mod for it already (which I discovered only later), which mymap lacks. So, it's easier to start testing that.

Well, since Asia is more developed compared to Europe in Kasperus' map, cant you make an Asian game the first to be tried?
Would love to see the MP scene switched for once :).

Well, HoG wants to GM that I believe, so why not?

Though I think Asia will lack some crucial aspects: events, leaders, exploring and so on. Having more provinces there doesn't change the fact that Asia is basically less interesting in this timeframe.
The risk that it doesn't work is larger as well, since apart from the new map, the whole area is unbalanced in MP.
China just can overrun everyone there. And if they don't, the Mughals will.

Regardless, I am willing to try it out.

an asian game could still be fun but would be better with the following.

-at least orthodox tech - with their normal techs they basically dont move which is in my opinion very boring. Especially cos you never get infra 5 so inflation kills you. Also exploring never seems to happen

-lots of random leaders

-perhaps an alternitive random events file for flavour

- making europe all natives/colonial so we can colonise it :) Think this woud be great fun though perhaps a lot of work?

Cheech,

Not sure about the rest. Asian techs area actually fine if you're all Asians.

But leaders and monarchs and events I want to try to cull from Asia Universalis.

you prefer low tech games?

means less wars for a start

Hi
Have you had time testing that? I installed it on my computer after seeing this thread and its really nice, its feels like a whole new game, SP wise. I certainly had a blast playing. Could also be nice with a grand campaign scenario instead of only one.

I did test it indeed, but not more than the first ~20 years with different countries.

I am preparing a report for Spain for the first century.

I played a hundred years in SP, using Ryo's MP scenario. fun, but save corrupted (?), so can't load and continue that one. meh.

one thing : there is no longer a land connection between Holstein and Bremen; the sea zone in that area includes the Elbe esturary and so separates the provinces.

is this accurate?

Any idea what went wrong?

No idea! I would PM Kasperus about that.
