As for China, I'm thinking that simply portraying the 15 Ming provinces will be enough. Having this little amount of provinces will make it much more vulnerable to foreign invasions. The provinces would of course be supremely rich and populated. Movement times can be increased from geography.txt. We could also compensate for its improved stability and possible hyperteching by modifying the Confucian religion.

As for Japan, I have decided against implementing the Sengoku system as we simply don't have enough manpower to perform such a change. So the number of provinces will have to be much less than the one proposed by Herr Doctor.

Japan isn't supposed to be doing anything in the timeframe (apart from the attempted conquest of Korea) so I guess 11 provinces (Ezochi, Michinoku, Kanto, Hokariku, Koshinetsu, Tokai, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu, Ryukyu) should be enough?

If it helps, you can use the work I did when I implemented the sengoku setup in the 1492 Watkabaoi scenario:

The clans pictured above are (from NE to SW) Date, Hojo, Takeda, Uesugi, Imagawa, Ashikaga (Muromachi Shogunate), Oda, Amako, Ouchi, Chosokabe, Otomo, Ryuzoji, and Shimazu. Tokugawa exists as a possible revolter. All clans except Chosokabe have monarchs and most also have several leaders.

Flags/shields are based on hata-jirushi, ō-uma-jirushi, and nobori where appropriate. Because of the flag/shield dimensions, I also used sashimono where they had a similar design as the hata-jirushi (e.g. Shimazu). This was kind of problematic, because most banners varied a lot between daimyo of the same clan, so I usually settled for consistent themes, e.g. in the case of the late Hojo the five horizontal stripes that were used by Ujitsuna, Ujiyasu, and Ujimasa (but not Soun).

Anyway, you really should consider implementing the sengoku jidai, since otherwise there's not much point in playing Japan.

It used to be in the gfx forum, but I think the link is dead. I'll just zip the whole thing and upload it as a modding resource sometime the next days...

The project regrettably had to be postponed indefinitely because any further time dedicated to it would have had to be sacrificed from my studies. I might be able to resume next summer but even that is not a certainty.

If there's interest, I can write a detailed guide on the use of the magellan tools and photoshop for the production of an FTG map. I can also share the work done so far for others to resume and complete. The work done so far consists of photoshop files containing ID layers based on designs which were mainly proposed by Herr Doctor.

A tutorial would be great. Mumia has released the ID layer of his E3 map so when I have some time I might create an FtG map based on that layout.

Maybe in the steppes and deserts of the city as a province called? So in reality, until the 17th century there were no settlements even the average

Large picture of Europe

The E3 map doesn't really concern itself with borders of the FtG timeframe very much, but because the provinces are so small, many historical borders are there anyway. I did a rough draft for northern Italy based on the E3 provinces:

The E3 map is larger than the FtG map, though. I think it's about 3:2 for either dimension? You can easily scale it down without interpolation, however, so the only real problem is the region province limit and the size of some of the provinces.

Very interesting map. The coastline is incredibly detailed.

The E3 map is 29952 vs 11520 px so its aspect ratio is almost identical to a FTG map (18944 x 7296).

It looks like the region limit will pose a problem though. Compared to WATK 4, Europe is around 250px smaller in each direction.

Here's the latest drawing of the European/African part of the map.

Other parts may be uploaded later.

I like that on that map all historical electors are present. However several provinces are very narrow and/or small. Are all of them still able to display armies and buildings and still be clickable?

That remains to be seen. I only have slight doubts about the provinces between the Rhine and the Meuse (in which case that area would have to be re-arranged a bit) but the rest should be fine.

Yep. There are still available slots so Kiev could be made a separate province on the right bank. The left bank could be reserved for Poltava, Baturyn or any other Cossack stronghold.

Nice to see that you continue the project, hope to see the release soon! As you know I prefer the previous version with proper rivers and archaic spelling names in "upper class" languages of the era. Nevertheless the map looks the best of all EU2/FtG map mods atm.

Couple of remarks regarding some things that came to my attention. Not sure if the names are "final" or just for preview only, but in some places they are a bit inconsistent (for example, "Westfalen" instead of Westphalia, "Thüringen" instead of Thuringia, or "Friesland" instead of Frisia, etc - in case if you go with old English/Latin names).

Also I really miss proper Liege/Loon division as it was pretty good catch in previous version to represent very important historical cultural division in the area; in result Luxembourg looks too big and Liege (as a province) is somewhat misplaced.

If it would be possible (provinces IDs-wise), please, consider my old suggestion for division of Pomoria on three regions: it looks too large at the moment, and the region could easily turn into playground for military conflicts between Sweden and Novgorod/Russia due to its strategic position.

Keep the good work.:)

Awesome Europe - Africa map! The provinces in Medieval Bulgaria are very accurate and the whole Balkans region, Asia Minor and the list continues (according to my knowledge I can confirm for this regions that they are correct). This is the best ever map which I had seen. You are real historians, well done! :)
