The biggest slowdown I found in the late game was the resource events. The reason for this is that they pause the game automatically - it's not that painful to let things run day-to-day and especially just pause for new tech discoveries overnight, but from January to about May in-game, every day or so, there's a resource event that requires the player to acknowledge it. As for where they'd fit, that's one I can't answer as easily.

Ok that is good to know. 1 thing - you can adjust message options in game - but i am not sure if you can adjust events messages to that degree.

I am currently halfway through the gemany event file, i am hoping to have it done by the end of the weekend if not before. At that time i will be getting you guys to review the files as i mentioned in a post above. So this is a heads up that by early next week you will have stuff to do.
Once this bottleneck is FINALLY done with things will move a lot faster again.

You can't. Events require a response on the player's part, so by default they pause the game. If you have multiple simultaneous fires, it may start the clock again after you acknowledge the first one, but that first one still stops things.

EDIT - And early next week is a good time for me to start looking at stuff.

So much for Early this week. Its been a bit frustrating this week. Progress has been made but it does not feel like forward progress. A lot of events have had to be reworked extensively. The Winter War - Altmark-Wilfred-Fall Weserubung- Benelux - Sealion - North Africa and so on.

I will do a much as i can in the next 36 hours, then gone for a couple of days. Will update before i go.

Hang in there. Thanks for your patience. I am starting to look forward to playtesting:) Just a bit.

Any progress?

Update

I am on the home stretch - so to speak. I will be finished Event re-working for Germany tonight or tomorrow morning. (not sure of the count but i think will be around 800 events )

I have changed the process for following that.
c0d I have sent you an email asking about some things you can help me with.

I still have 3 tech event files to relink. And maybe 8 Minister files to uncorrupt. Also the last 1/3 of the large Startup file must be debugged as well. At that point we should have a test worthy ver of 1.3. Possibly by the end of the weekend.

There are also a bunch of tech additions that may or may not get done by then. They will be in 1.3 but maybe not in the first beta test files. Will play it by ear.

So at this point i could use some volunteers for beta testing next week.
We already have 4, but more using specific nations would be very helpful.

Serious only please. There will be plenty of buggs to find and correct.

So, if you don't want to write down error notes and restart repeatedly. DO NOT volunteer.

Contact me at moxs60@hotmail.com and tell me how you can help.

Haven't gotten your E-mail - it's my forum name @tamu.edu; remember that's a zero, not an O in the first part.

Update

@ c0d yea i screwed up something the mail eventually came back to me. :(

Ok here is were we are at on progress. I am 2/3rds of the way through the ai event files. This is tweeking and relinking to make them compatible with the reworked event files. NOT part the major AI overhaul planned for Ver 1.4. i will be finished them today. I also have 4 minister files to uncorrupt - also today.

( * Question to modders - i am finding that importing parts of minister files from one mod to another ends up in a corrupted file - having to redo the individual entries to fix. Anyone know why this is happening and or a lest time consuming fix?)

Then i have to review and relink the 3 Tech events files - which i will start today - but finish tomorrow.

I will have another update then.

The minister issue is probably caused by a combination of numbering issues and image-name issues, so no, there really isn't another way around it. My first guess is there's a conflict in minister numbers, and the only way around that is to assign a range to each country and stay within the range during development (Germany, 1-500, Britain, 501-1000, et cetera; obviously some countries with better documentation get more minister choices, so you may only have Afghanistan 6501-6550).

Prod prod.

Update

Sorry for not posting for a while. I have been working away validating and debugging the files for the past 2 weeks.

Unfortunately there are some problems.
There are buggs in the England German USA and USSR event files that stop loading but are very difficult to find. I am having to use the process of elimination which is painfully slow.
We also seem to have problems with minister leader and tech team files that have had additions from other mods pasted into them. makes no logical sense but corrupts the files. So we are going to have to backtrack a bit for those and key them in maybe for 1.3 maybe not.

Once i have a 1.3 alpha that starts up, i will asses things - i have some major tech renovations and additions to do, but maybe will do those while some play testing is going on.

MAJOR UPDATE RDD ver 1.3 BETA will be UPLOADED July 25th 2010. 4 months late

YES we have a working version of 1.3 i have been testing and working on tech changes and graphics to match.
I will be uploading Sunday nite to Bopworld. There will be 2 parts. 1 Graphics 2 game files.

The graphics will be very large - sorry, but needed to match the tech tree.

From a designers view - this thing had been patched together by me starting 5 years ago.
It was a mess.

So with swampfox's proding last December and c0d's efforts torndown the mod and rebuilt it.

Has taken twice as long as i though and much more detailed.

Point is this now a mod to expand and build upon.
I wil be starting a NEW thread for the relaunch.

Look for it Sunday Late EST.

No big news really working on redistribution.

and some secret weapns

airships and minefields

one of the big things was trying to "fill out" events each year with world events and war events - not just those directly related to Germany - though most do.
Also adding weather and natural disaster events- all historical.
But they are very tricky and complicated so they will be not included just yet. (might not be worth the effect)

The game timeline now goes to 1999.

With hope that maybe in then future we can start it at 1900.

December of last year, huh?

This has been bugging me for a while now. I've stayed quiet about it because making a fuss doesn't move the mod forward, but this thing would've been in the back pages of the forum still if I hadn't gone back and dug it out... before Swampfox's participation.

My apologies. No slight was intended. My words reflected my 6 month hiatus, and Swampfox contacting last December.
You kept the thread and mod active during my hiatus. Thank you for that c0d. My Bad.

PS Do not let it bugg you, anyone reading the thread can see your contributions.

Don't worry about it. I'm needlessly touchy at the best of times; being hopped up on caffeine just made it worse. I'm just glad it didn't disrupt things. Anyway, do we have a playable 1.3, and is it savegame compatible if so?

We do have a playable ver of 1.3
but i am still making tech changes lots to do before i upload.

weather your previous saved game would work - i doubt it - alot has changed.
but it could be possible
this will b a copy over a clean version of arm 1.32 hotfix
only way to know would be to try

Update

Am working away at tech and graphics needed to match those changes.

There is new stuff but also as i said more of a rebuild/restructure of RDD ver 1.1. So that it works.

All events have been reorganized renumbered and many rewritten.

2 weeks spent using the excellent
Audax.Clausewitz.Validator debuggin every file.

Another week finding and fixing errors that were found only by running the game again and again.

The point is i have done all i can do to make sure the files and the game works.

EXCEPT for extensive playtesting but various players.

But i have been advised that at this point get the mod out there for people to play and report problems. Rather than Delaying another 2 weeks.

So look for a new thread in about 12 hours.

Graphics are still minimal. New and old events and tech all need new graphics - but that will be for ver 1.4. Along with expanded world events for 1945.

And all problems reported. The plan is for ver 1.4 to be out in 2-3 weeks.

But i will do hotfixes as needed. Once again thanks to c0d, swampfox and delanonne.

For making this possible.

Hey all, Moxs asked me to write you a brief note. He has been working since 8 am yesterday and it is 1:30 am now his time. He is very tired and will take a nap. He is almost finished and ready to upload but, he has to check a few things and is too tired to do detailed checking. So as soon as he wakes up he will finish and upload the files. He has been working very hard on this so I think we all owe him a big thank you. The amount of work involved is unbelievable.
Take care,
delanonne
