I’ve finished the tutorial and am about 24 years in to my (so far quite successful) Sparta run, because I like the idea of Playing tall, which is working out well for with 89% Research Efficiency. I’m a Regional Power, and have an alliance with Macedon. What, in your opinions, re the time frames for the Early-, Mid-, and Late-Game periods?

Note: I found a Reddit thread earlier, and the general consensus was that the Mid-Game starts on the Roman Winter. Is this correct?

I would say mid-game starts when Rome has conquered all of Italy - at that point they start threatening other nations (usually in southern Gaul, Epirus or Dalmatia).

Late game - harder to define...if going around how the Roman AI works, I would say when Carthage are pretty much dead, or when most of Gaul/old Yugoslavia is conquered.

Outside of Rome, Maurya uniting India is a fairly good indicator of late game, especially if you’re playing in the eastern regions.

Can be hard to put hard dates but i agree with olivenkranz about early game 450-500. It makes the start of the warm period thee start of the midgame and leaves most unique events (diadochi war, mithradates etc) in the early game.

Mid game and late game i'm not sure if i want to put a hard border on. Theres no special event that marks a transition and they only differ due to you and other nations presumably being stronger (more inventions, more time to conquer/assimilate/convert etc)

Uh oh. It’s 500 AUC, Rome has united Italy and decimated Carthage, but has no Iberian land. Meanwhile, Maurya (different name because of dynasty change, can’t remember exactly what though) has conquered nearly all of India. AI Rome is deciding to expand East into the Balkans and Greece, and I’m playing as Sparta, and I’ve united the Peloponnese and the Island of Crete. On the other hand, I’ve allied Epirus and Macedon and am about to ally the Antigonids, so I’m safe.
