Once 1.05 comes out, I will be starting up some new games with old players. We might be able to fit in another player in one of the games, so if you are interested I can keep you in mind. I likely will be starting new threads for any new games, so you can also just keep an eye out.

If you are interested, pm me, email me at ludovico_europa@hotmail.com, or just post here. I can give details at that point.

I studied French for eight years, but I would never dare to try write it again :D

Give me a break! What is so good about pbem games anyway? Why would you want to play does when you can play regular mp off of the vnet and let everyting happen at one time? It doesn't make the least bit of sense to me.

Prince Eugene, three things come to mind that make PBEM games an enjoyable, though not equivalent, alternative to real-time MP: 1) one can play during any time of the day that one has available to play, 2) one can set the game speed to anything desirable, and 3) crashes are few and far between.

Some drawbacks are: 1) with a 5 year turn, wars that break out near the end of the turn get finished by the AI not always the way the human would have finished it, 2) alliances between historic enemies are virtually impossible, 3) a long time elapses before one gets another turn.

Although not as thrilling as real-time, PBEM games still offer a fair amount of enjoyment.

On top of still having some of the perks of multiplayer (human opponents, harder challenge, diplomacy), it allows for good AAR writing!

Plus letting the AI run your country is actually quite fun - adds another strategical level.

If you are going to do that you might as well play single player.

I think you miss the point being made. Look at it this way, you get to rule a country for 5 years and then you die and pass it on to your heir who you hope is able to continue your success. 20 or 30 years pass and you again get to try to rule your country. That 5-year period that you play can be very intense! You also have to focus on the short-term 5 years and not the 300-year long term, which is more realistic. The AI sometimes helps and sometimes hinders the human player, which creates more tension when you open the game file that someone else has just finished playing to see what has happened to your country. Band listed the advantages of playing this way and the problems. I’m not saying its better than MP I’m just saying it’s a lot of fun and you might want to try it sometime. Playing as a single player does not provide the same game play.:)
