CK II has a dynamical "storytelling"/"character development" aspect who always amazed me, but which takes a back sit to the grand strategy. I still hope paradox will do a game who flash it out.

It's going to be amusing to see you speculate

So what you are saying is you want me to come visit?

No. First of all EU4 beat CK2 as far as popularity goes. Secondly, it would not be the smartest thing to stop developing the game and then release another one half a year later. Really HALF a year later? May I remind you that the beta testing alone takes up to half a year. A grand strategy game needs much more time to develop. What they would not do for sure is to start developing a new iteration when the old one is still actively being worked on. They are not such a huge company that they would have the manpower to do something like that. Also, I am not sure how a CK3 would look like. There would be many problems but the main issue that I see is that the DLC added so much content, many new areas and so on. If that would be absent in CK3 then people would not be inclined to buy it as it would essentially be an inferior product compared to CK2.

Well EUIV had alot of the expension fetures from EUIII on release day so they could do the same with CKIII as well:)
That is true, however it would be bad for business to release it immediately afterwards like OP suggested. Paradox is not EA or Activision releasing more or less the same game all the time. Like arguably HoI is the most popular brand that Paradox has at this moment and they released the final expansion in 2012, that is 4 years ago(if HoI4 will be released in Q3). Even if HoI4 would not have been delayed then that would still have been well over 2.5 years. As long as CK2 is being actively developed then they will not start developing CK3. The truth is that these expansions and DLCs are more profitable for Paradox than developing a new iteration of the series. They are milking these cash cows until the last drop of "milk" has been extinguished. You need more cash cows than 1 to stay in good shape, that is why it is much more profitable to develop new games. Not only does it attract new audience and customers but you can potentially grow another cash cow. You want to have question marks and stars as well not only cash cows(dogs are generally undesirable). A cash cow has low market share growth, so actually the stars are the best as they have high market share growth and high market share as well.

I want them to stop messing with CK 2 (except fix all the broken stuff), but I don't want them to start working on CK3 yet, not before they've rediscovered what makes CK special, a vision they seem to have lost.

I have high hopes for the mystery project being Victoria 3.

I've thought a lot about this....

Us as players will expect CK3 to be "Ck2 plus every single DLC, plus general improvements / updates / optimization / new graphics"

So if we're expecting a complete package at release, what the heck are they gonna be able to release for DLCs?

There's no way im going to shill out more money for another "sword of islam" or "old gods" or unit and portrait packs, ive already bought all those things. It would be very insulting for them to try selling the same DLCs twice for separate games.

We know that Paradox is now basically living and growing from their current DLC model... So therefore CK3 will have lots of DLC... So are we gonna all have to do the same thing we did with ck2....again? Doesn't seem logical.

i doubt there's any chance it'll be CK2; they're actively developing it and it's still profitable.

a big part of me hopes that it'll be vic3, as it's my favourite of the grand strategies, but i think i'll be disappointed.

certainly a grand strategy about rome could be profitable. there hasn't been anything since rome total war 2, and given what a disappointment that turned out to be, i think that could be quite profitable for paradox. if it's done to the same high standard as their other recent games have been on release, then i think it could be especially popular. i wonder whether they would base it on the EU4 model/engine, or make a new one?
