Since CK2 doesn't get developed any further, I figured that I would finally start changing things I don't like myself.
One of the things I love about CK2 in contrast to say EU IV (besides Roleplaying) and Sengoku is the unit system which at least has so variety in contrast to those other 2 failures with barely 3 units. During the release of JD there were already discussions of adding Crossbowmen, and even though I didn't participate back then, I personally supported the idea.
So now the question: Is it possible to add new Unit Types? I am not talking about Special_Troops, I'm aware that those are editable (and quite easily at that). If there is no other choice I will probably resort to that, but well, if I could add new Unit Types itself that would be better. Why would that be better? If you followed the abouve mentioned JD discussion back in the day, one problem with Special Units is that you can only have one type in (I think) one flank, perhaps even 1 army. I usually have no Special Troops since I usually play as Cornwall in the 769 start.
I looked into the data myself a bit, so I am aware that the stats for the common units are in the common/defines.lua, as well as the interface/avatars.gfx, probably also some stuff in other relevant data like the combat tactics, technology and so on, but thats probably optional.
Did anyone try something like this before? Or does someone know if this is possible at all? Usually the moddable stuff is in those wonderful txt data after all.
Things I think about editing/adding are probably along the lines of Halberds, Firearms, changing Archers to Crossbowmen, adding Longbowmen (and if I ever gonna add japanese as culture Samurai) as Special troops, etc.
