Hi,
Just started playing Surviving Mars on Xbox and wanted to feedback a few things: -
1) UI navigation on the information screens (Buildings, Colonists etc).
When I first started playing I thought it was impossible to move from the left side of the screen (with filter options) over to right side (listing the colonists and buildings) to get more details. Nowhere on the screen does it tell you how to move from one side of the screen to the other. I kept trying to press right on the D pad and left and right sticks but nothing happened. Only much later did I eventually work out I had to press left/right shoulder buttons to switch between sides of the screen. Either 1) this needs to be clear in the UI or 2) just allow what the user would naturally do so that if the press right on the dpad or thumbstick, it moves focus to that side of the screen.
2) Filter selection on the information screens
Again on these information screens. The filters options on the left hand side near the bottom where you can choose to filter by specialization and traits etc. When you click on this to bring up the context menu of options its almost impossible to see which one you've highlighted in the menu. Please make this clearer to see.
3) Xbox fans go full throttle when in menu/information screens
I have an Xbox One X and when on the main view xbox behaves normally. However, when I go into a menu/information screen the Xbox fans go into turbo like I've they've just been given the most complex scene to render when all it is, is a menu screen. I even had one event where I left it on this screen for a while to make myself drink and when I came back the Xbox was off. Turned it on and Xbox dashboard informed me it powered itself off to protect itself from over heating. I've had Xbox One X since day 1 and never ever seen that happen on any other game, so something odd going on there.
4) Speed of time/building selection navigation
Another UI navigation issue. I find it very annoying that when I select a building I intuitively press right on dpad or right on thumbstick to get to the building options only to find I keep speeding up time. Can we have a different method to change the speed of time and make it so that I press right on the dpad when I have a building selected, it goes right. I don't know what this whole left/right should button navigation is about but its very annoying.
5) Colonist Planning
When I'm trying to work out what type of colonists I need to bring to Mars from Earth it would be very useful if we could just have a simple information screen that just lists how many jobs per specialization we have in comparison to how many colonists I currently have with those specializations. That way I don't have to manually workout out shortfall and can just easily see I need x Engineers and x Scientists etc.
6) Tutorial Mistake
When going through the tutorial and it brings up Research screen and explains Research points it says "You can view a breakdown of the Research Points generated per Sol on the right side of the Research screen".
The breakdown is actually on the left not the right.
Looking at some historical screenshots of the game it looks like you changed the Research screen layout, so maybe it was correct before but now its changed its not
7) Drones Hubs don't communicate?
When I was positioning my Drone Hubs I way making it so the area effect was positioned exactly inline and little or no overlapping. I then had this situation where one of my domes was half in one Drone Hub area and half in the other. I then had a Diner in the dome that was in one Drone Hub area and a food store just outside the dome but in the other Drone Hub area. At first I could not understand why my Diner was not operating, it said it needed food, it had food waiting just outside but the drones would not take into the Dome and to the diner.
Is that how its meant to work?
Given how advanced the technology would be, all the AI and automation etc. How is it that there is no comms between Drone Hubs to relay tasks between each other. The Drones Hubs should really just increase the overall area of effect and sure maybe the drones can still have a primary Drone Hub they belong to but jobs should be relayed between Hubs and drones should be able to go into different Drone Hub areas and just return to their own Drone Hub area once they completed the required task or if they have to stay in same area the just hand over the resource to another drone in that area.
Other than these minor issues I'm enjoying the game and looking forward to see how my colony expands.
