ok here is my attempt at an AAR,
"From a History GCSE text book chapter 1 (part 1/2)
Englands rise to global dominance can be traced back to the late middle ages, a time when Henry VII took the throne by force and united the two warring noble factions of York and Lancaster. France was counted as an ally and the great religious schism had yet to isolate England from the rest of Europe. The early years of Henry's reign were peaceful content ones, he was tolerant of all religions, people took his policy to be divinely inspired as a young saint worked miracles across the land, and he was not eager to participate in the blatant expansionism of the greedy Hapsburgs. However the north has only enjoyed a few years of peace before a dark cloud appeared upon the horizon once more. The brutal savage scots had begun to arm their tribsmen with crude pointy implements that could only signal one thing. The evils barbarous scots were arming themselves for War!!!
But the scots has not counted on the quick thinking King, quickly mobilizing the soldiers from their peaceful, tree hugging lives that they had so looked forward to. Unfortunatley the French had included the scots in thier alliance, Henry assumed that the French ambassador had signed the papers in order to get the filthy scot away from him and had no intentions of helping the beasts up north retain their baby eating practices. However the frech king rudely informed our humble ambassador that not only was it not a mistake, that they would help their allies against us.
Henry was in trouble, he could not attack or he would risk France's wrath but if he did nothing the scots would build up their troops and come swarming across the Pennines butchering as they went. In a stroke of genius he decided the only way was to ally with Spain and hope that the French would see reason and abandon their protection of the scots. He signed the alliance and marched his troops into scotland to protect thousands of civillian lives.

France did not respond immediately and the scottish hordes were herocially butchered outside the gates of Edinborough. Henry assumed the French had seen sense and would do the right thing. But alas some fog must have come across the King's mind and he mobilised for war against the alliance of righteousness. With the scottish army crushed and all their castles being sieged the only battles were being fought on the foothills surrounding Barcalona, the brave Spanish army fought valiantly but was beaten. The French took no prisoners and signalled their intentions for the entire conflict. England seeing Spain's plight authoried a loan of 200 ducats and several strangely exorbitant state gifts to help the iberian war effort. The scottish mud fortresses were proving exceptionally difficult to take as the good hearted commander did not want to take lives needlessly. France were now on the verge of breaching the pyreenes fortresses Noticing his ally's situation Henry commisioned a cavarly army to liberate Paris from the deranged tyrants grip. For months they seiged the once beautiful city, now transformed into a den of debauchery and sin, expecting the french army to appear over the horizon. Paris was on the verge of falling when the French army thundered down the Seine, destroying our army. General Perkins offered his army's unconditional surrender but the enemy King just laughed and ordered every last prisoner killed apart from the brave general who he locked in the Bastille.

His brave sacrifice was not in vain though as it allowed the Spanish armies to retake thier keeps and head into the Alps to knock Savoy out of the war. The victorious french army headed towards the English port of Calais, they settled in for a long siege, the bravery of our seamen kept them going to the rage of the French who used rotten carcasses of their own men to spread disease in the defenders. In order to avoid civillian causalties the commander of the garrison surrendered, the french army kept its word and left south to fight the spanish. However one general kept himself and his bodyguard behind to inflict atrocities upon the population. However the English fleet noticed this and stormed into the port killing the fiendish leader and liberating the town .
In the North the last scottish fort had fallen and peace was concluded, Henry allowed the scots a small parcel of land to keep near their capital, he was not trying to extinguish thier way of life if it kept them happy. These experienced troops now headed south and to the normandy coast. With the Spanish fighting the French to a standstill and tens of thousands of English troops landning in beachs in Normandy storming the impregnable "Atlantic Wall", france was brought to the negotiating table. Henry did not want revenge and could not let Franch become weak for fear of the greedy Hapsburg taking advantage so he propesed a magnanamous peace of 175 ducats going to the alliance in return for peace and prosperity returning to Europe, in a corner of his mind he recognised that it was only western europe and that the Hapsburgs could prove a more dangerous foe than France in the future.

The birth of a leader:

After countless battle in mainland Europe, Henry was totally ashamed of the atrocity he made on the battlefield. So much blood, so much courage have been wasted. For what? Nothing. Only some ducats for the mighty English King.

Now that the war is over, Henry is happy to spend his time on his lands with his wife and their 2 daughters. Each time he look upon them he sees raped children by the enemy and his troops. So painful. He Tried hard to make is land productive. But how can a born soldier could do as a farmer? he often ask.

After some years of misery, he accepted an offer from the king himself and he embarked for the New World. Discoveries are awaiting for him! No blood he hopes.

Henry the soldier was dead.
A conquistador was born.

Red tide from North

Some warriors and merchants built this fortress in upper Volga lands, belonging to slave populations; near Novgorod Rurik collected those provs as a Principate. In the area under Mongols' influence there was the Granduchy of Muscowy ruled by prince Ivan III, our noble leader; after annexing the fortresses in Vladimir and Ryazan, He would unify all these lands in the name of Russia. The Golden Horde appeared in decadence and granted an autonomy to the city of Kazan avoiding internal rebellions; so we decided to DoW it: while his army advanced to occupy Nizhgorod, our generals with high morale besieged every its provs. Soldiers and soldiers died on the iced snow, but we sent troops as waves; at the end being enemies won by friction and hunger, Ivan got the best peace: many cities captured along the Volgaj river. At the end of the truce the events repeated in the same way and Ivan III won again, because of more income: we reached the Caspian Sea.
About the western border we have a MA with AI Denmark and Pskov, we look about Poland and Lithuania with more attention because perm was absent there and we don’t know their intentions.
In domestic policy we preferred commit our destiny to convinced armies, ready to the battles and the sieges. In every city there was developments for the defense, the justice and the trade. We sincerely hope now only to receive good leaders and monarchs to improve our Nation.

(I have too much spare time, homework is just too easy)

With the defeat and surrender of the French armies England was once more at peace and with the Isles all but secured (apart from the recluses in the north who stubbornly claimed independence)and the largest fleet in North Europe patrolling the straits of calais, peaceful matters could be attended too. The state of europe was Henry's primary concern and he was indeed concerned, the unexplained absence of the King of Poland had allowed the house of Hapsburg and their Austrian minions to exert a dangerous amount of influence onto the weakened German states. In fact when one went against the wishes of the Hapsburgs they sent the imperial guard to "stabilise" the region for the good of the Holy Roman Empire. But mostly peace reigned across the civilised lands, up north the Danes had crushed the Swedes but rumours abounded that God himself would intervene as he really liked the Swedes and restore their lost territory. In the east the Muscovite hordes attacked the aptly named Golden Horde, the tottering Golden horde fell at the cost of hundreds of thousands of troops to the biting winter. Honestly, Henry thought, which King would actually do anything in the middle of winter in Russia there were bound to be awful causulties. Then again maybe death was preferable to the lives they were forced to live. Maybe he should liberate them from their cruel Tsar. In the balkans the Ottomans were being remarkable peaceful although they did attempt some religious persuasion on the inhabitants of Kosovo. This caused some sort of dispute between the Hapsburgs and the Sultan, when Henry tried to help by saying maybe religion wasn't all that important and the catholic faith was rather corrupt anyway, he got a crusade threat from the evil warmongering Hapsburgs. Sometimes it made one want a new faith.
At home the explorer Cabot had embarked upon voyages of discovery and peace although one of these was cut short by a marauding Scottish raft armed with rotten fish, obviously paid for by the French. He charted the regions of the New World and even penertrated the icy waters of the Arctic sea. Encouraged by Cabot discoveries Henry authorised several colonists to brave the sea and set up a land of freedom and happiness across the water, unfortunatley adverse weather forced many to resettle in Ireland instead as they got seasick if they went into the atlantic. Elsewhere another Saint worked miracles and cured the sick, many thought this sure sign he was on the right religious track.

However a conclave was called to fight the Hapsburg as he expanded into Italy, the pope did nothing and soon after recieved a rather large gold plated, platinum cross courtesy of the Hapsburgs. The alliance agreed that together: England, Spain, France and the Ottoman empire could stop the hapsburgs before their greed became too powerful. Our brave troops rallied to the flag and became our expeditionary force under the command of the recently freed General Perkins. Marching across the stolen Dutch lands they started sieging Zeeland, elsewhere the war was going well as the French had taken Lorraine and the Spanish had landed in Italy. However the Austrian troops mobilsed and sent two 40,000 strong armies into Holland. The cowardly French fled the field of war and took the single territory that austria offered, like a dog grovelling for scraps at a table. Our brave army continued the siege as the Austrians had to send their armies down to the south to fight the loyal, brave Spanish.
Months past and the Spanish armies put up heavy resistance in the south and managed to board their ships with few casualties. As the fortress was close to falling an 20K cavalry army approached us across the river, we dismissed them as a scouting force and paid no further heed. But they snuck into our camp through the sentry lines, who it was later revealed had been bought off, and smashed through us, many horses died trying to get through the swamp but surprise had given them the advantage and our army was utterly annihilated apart from General Perkins, who was recorded to have said "Bugger" as he was led to the dungeons of Vienna.
For a year brave Englishmen were armed and trained and sent out to die for the same peice of ground over and over again. Appalled by the carnage Henry ordered a ceasefire to be found. The Hapsburgs wanted our recognition of Holland as theirs. Henry counteroffered and although no-one has recorded what he said, it was apparently eloquent enough to convince the Arch Duke to settle for a white peace. Yet as one war ended another began, the Scots at last seeing the futility of thier lives and the better sanitation available to their brethren just to the south pleaded for annexation, Henry complied and annexed the city of Edinborough amongst much cheering and drinking(cheap wine had been imported to settle down any among the populace who still had nationalistic tendencies). And so peace reigned once more, although the world knew that the Hapsburgs would strike again, but in the meantime attention was focused on the new world and the young conquistador who was making a name for himself...

Part 1
The Swabian War

The Reich once the most glorious of christian kingdoms was not in a good state. Roads were not safe and only fortified cities presented sufficient protection against looting gangs and robber barons. The italian Lords and Republics openly defied Imperial Rule. In Germany the people enserfed and poor were rising in great numbers. In this situation the Emperor Maximilian I. came back to his hometown and capital Vienna to counsel with his retainers.

„The Empire is in chaos and the people have lost trust in our rulership.“ The Emperor spoke, „it seems God our Lord himself has decided that this realm is doomed to be destroyed.“
„Do not despair my King!“ shouted Georg von Frundsberg master of the new ways of warfare. „Your rule will bring back the order and prosperity to your Kingdoms.“ „But were to begin my quest for order and peace?“ Maximilian asked „In the North the Duke of Brandenburg wages a bloody campaign against the cities of the Hanseatic League, in the South Venecia has invaded Italy, burning down every city which doesn’t bend to their rule and in Swabia the swiss rebels are behaving more and more independant from imperal rule.“ Here the Emperor‘s most trusted advisor, the old cardinal Melchior von Meckau rose to speak his mind: „The Graubündner and the Swabian League have allied themselves with the Swiss Federation forming a mighty block of rebels who might once even become independent of the German Kingdom. Still the Habsburg claims on Switzerland stand but if we don’t act qickly the reputation of the Emperor will never recover from failing to hold his own demense." At this moment a messager arrived with a letter to the Emperor. „St. Gallen has been occupied by the Swiss and it’s major askes for help to retake the city.“ explained the Emperor „so God has shown us what to do next. Melchior contact our vassals and Georg gather the imperial troops in Swabia.“

Von Frundsberg marched quickly into Württemberg and forced the surrender of the Swabian League but the Swiss forces assisted by Graubünden were too strong and well trained to assault with his force alone. Meanwhile from all over the Empire loyal troops came on the Emperors request. Bavaria and Bohemia send the strongest forces and even the King of Hungary came with a sizable army to assist his christian ally and Franz von Sickingen had gathered many loyal Knights in the Palatinate. And so the Swiss were defeated by the royal forces and peace restored in the Southern Kingdom of Germany.

tries to subdue the chaos in his Kingdoms and save Christianity from Ottoman Agression

On this map can be seen the final stage of the Swabian war before the decisive intervention of the Knights under von Sickingen. Note also the Venetian expansion into Italy.

Part2
The Emperor makes his might felt in the North
In the South erupts a final time the great struggle between Emperor and Pope

The Imperial Diet summoned to a meeting in the city of Freiburg discussed the consequences
of the Swabian War. Here Melchior questioned Maximilian on the further course of the Empire. „Not much response on your call for Christian unity it seems.“ „Yes, admitted the Emperor with a sad face, „ it seems the King of Hungary and the Roman Emperor stand alone against Ottoman conquest of Europe. Gone are the times of our ancestors when the Christian realms were standing together to face the Arabian Heretics.“ „You’re sure you want to grant this Knight von Sickingen Switzerland as a fief? You know what Georg has said about him: a relict of the past, more bold than skillful.“ „Well he still fought valiantly and haven’t the Knights always been loyal to the German King?“ answered the Emperor and Melchior seeing that he couldn’t revise his opinion changed the subject „Well but let’s talk about other impoertant matters. I bring news from the war in the North!“ „Has there been battle with the Duke of Brandenburg?“ „No, but after Georg cut his supplies his army of mercenaries just faded away. The threatend Hanseatic Cities have made consessions for our help and Duke Johann has surrendered! I think noone will object you stripping him of some territory if you leave him his status as elector. What fiefs are planned for this territory?“ The Emperor just laughed „None at all. It’s been a long time since the Emperor was felt there. These places will serve as a foot in the door of the North. Now as fast as Georg is back we will cross the Alpes to finally stop Venice! I heard they are already at war with our Hungarian allies!“ „Venice is not to be feared but a mightier force is backing them.“ „The Pope, Melchior?“ „Yes the Pope has invited the Venetians to assist him in Italy. The situation of the Italian Republics is desperate.“ „Then atleast we don’t have to fear their objections when we join this struggle. My predecessors dethroned many Popes. Maybe it’s time to revive an old tradition.“

And so an Imperial Force joined the Hungarians in their attack against the Venetian strongholds along the Adrian coastline, a small army under Georg von Frundsberg took Venice in a surprise attack and the Imperial main army under the Emperor’s Brother Ferdinand rushed down the Italian mainland easily taking one fortified city after another often with help from within. The Pope realising his forces were beaten and no help was coming from foreign nations accepted the Emperors souveranity over Italy. In a last moment of imperial glory the Emperor ahead of his vassals entered the Holy City to be ceremonial affirmed through a coronation by the Pope.

Franz von Sickingen, also called „the last Knight“ ;), fighter against the high nobility and ecclestial princes who tried to subdue the lower nobility and weaken the royal power in Germany

Part 3
„Many an enemy, much honour!“ Georg von Frundsberg

With the position of the Emperor secured the people of the realm looked forward to an era of peace. Art flourished and the imperial provinces enjoyed great wealth. But alas the lesser kingdoms of Europe grew anxious of the greatness of the Realm and came storming with countless armies into the Empire. In Italy spanish mercanaries attacked the unsuspecting imperial forces who had considered them allies. In the Balcans Ottoman and Imperial soldiers were fighting over Ragusa, in the West the old rival France marched with strong armies into Flandern and England a Pirate Kingdom of the North was plundering the coastline. In this moments of plight von Frundsberg and von Sickingen did great deeds for the saving of the Empire. The mighty french army was defeated by von Frundsberg taking many prisoners on his way to Paris and laying siege to the french capital. Von Sickingen rode up and down the dutch coast slaying many plunderers cheared by the population despite their emnity against the government in Vienna. Although the situation looked favorable the Emperor was still worried because of the great resources of his enemies and gave in to the french demands on Franche-Comte. The English King furious from being thrown out of Germany forced every suitable man into the army and laid an ambush against von Sickingen in the Lowlands. The knights angered by such a cheap trick fought on valiantly taking down a big part of the invading army. Still the Emperor’s Brother rushing with a force from the italian front could only rescue the dead body of the great Hero. With the western front secure it was only a matter of time until the enemies of the Empire had to agree to stay peaceful again and finally two years later the Sultan and the Emperor stopped hostilities in the Balcans after some hard fought victories by von Frundsberg over the Turks.

But despite it’s great victory the Empire did not know stability. The Pope bittered that the invading kingdoms never tried to help his position used the war for stirring up hate in the italian nobels and peasants against the rule of the Emperor. „We won the war but the Papacy is winning the peace.“ as Melchior put it. In Germany the actions of the Pope were seen in a different but no less dangerous way. The Emperor and his loyal followers became unwilling to listen to an authority which only had in mind to bring destruction to the Empire. The many levies the Church was taking to support new campaigns and monuments in Italy led the people to question the authority of the Pope or even the Church as such. Many high nobles though grew vary of the growing influence of the new imperial government. But unnoticed of all in Bavaria Wilhelm IV. became Duke who‘s actions should be the main occupation for politics in the German Kingdom for the coming years...

Georg von Frundsberg, capable and chivalrous general of the German King,

Russian Federation

What was in Moskva after those wars? Foreigner armies were beaten and our economy grew with big energy. Princes of Moskva claimed more and more to become the leaders of the new Federation in this Europe’s corner. Since our origins We looked to ugric and russian people; Mongols won’t be our lords more. After many battles they were sent away by our forces.
Last King of Sweden trusted in us, also because threats can come from central Europe; our ambassador in Stockholm agreed that peace conditions are necessary to grow in economy. So we want to create a snow garden in this extreme latitudes areas (only Finnish rebels can show up) .
King of Poland with his vassal Granduke of Lithuania joined baltic Teutonic Order, they gained some provs and will look at his borders with Austria. Strong armies of Sultan reached Crimea and Astrakhan, but our lands don’t seem to belong to his sphere of influence; after that act an ambassador was sent to know his willings about the future. We conquered many provs, but the wars produced evident costs: lower trade and infra techs, not badboy or inflation increasing.
So we’ll wait for the return of our ambassadors from aggressive Lithuania or strong Poland hoping to live a period of peace in next years.

The conquest of Hungary and Tuscany

The heretics in Egypt continued to be arrogant. Bayezid II, our great Sultan, decided that it was time to teach them a lesson. A major expedition was set up to conquer those infidels in the eyes of Allah. A great navy was built and Bayezid was on his way to take the rich territory of the Mameluks.

We landed in Egypt, the center of power of the Mameluke. To our great surprise, the kingdom was in a major turmoil. After entering in the city, people proclaimed that we were their new rulers, to the great deception of Mameluke.

Now that our South border was secured, the new leader of the Ottomans, Selim I was tempted by the rich lands of Hungary. Securing a temporary alliance with Poland, Selim was in a great position to wage war to Hungary.

Rumors were flying by. France and England was preparing a major invasion of Austria, the once major force in Europe. Our spies confirmed that they would launch the attack soon enough. Taking the decadent western power by surprise, Selim declared war to Hungary before France or England. Seeing that, Spain decided to protect his brother and declared war to France.

The apparent strategy of Austria (which were allied to Hungary), was to destroy the kingdom of Poland to force a white peace to the whole alliance. Seeing that, Selim I decided we couln't lost Poland in the war. Selim took command of 50k army and he goes North, in Poland. Majors battle happened with the great Von Frundberg and Ferdinand.

Selim, after a major defeat, retreated in Prussia, a neutral kingdom in this war. Desperate, he died there, while armies were sieging Hungary.

His successor was a major beast at war. He forgot about Poland and tried to take Hungary as fast as possible and after that go directly into mainland Austria. The strategy was successfull. Hungary fell and Austria decided to make peace for Krain and Carpathia to Poland.

Austria was continuing his conquest of Italy. The once great power of Tuscany was reduced to his main city, which was a great place to trade. Seeing the great opportunity, the Sultan decided to take advantage of that and declared war to Tuscany. Doing so, we took control of our fourth center of trade in Europe.

Peace and War.

The reign of Henry VIII was an era of turmoil, spiritually and the more secular variety that had more impact among the peasants. The realm was in a good state in the early years of 1520, so much so that despite the poor stability England didn't have any standing armies so peaceful were our subjects. Unfortunately the Welsh decided to break this brave anti-military experiment as they rebelled. Apparently the backward Welsh had only just realised Scotland was conquered and tried to help their celtic brothers (dead almost two decades ago). However a brave leader had arisen from the tactics gained in previous wars and he took up the challenge and went where now Englishman should ever have to go, he managed to disperse the Welsh rebels quickly with minimal loss of (english) life. Thus followed a period of quiet colonisation efforts were carried out in North America although these were impeded by insufficient maps. Funds were allocated to infrastructure and settling and the several battleships and corvettes were built to protect the fishing fleet from squid and Kraken etc. In 1530 a new port was built to further enhance the protection we could offer the fishers, the sea monsters had not been sighted but experts were sure they were gathering their strength for an all out attack. The port also allowed merchants to begin trading in Britain for the first time in history.
However trouble was brewing in the North as Sweden finished off what remained of denmark and started to expand onto the other shores of the baltic. They got into a war with holstein which dragged Spain in as well, although to our knowledge no actual fighting to place between the two powers. Austria could not stand by and let Sweden gobble up German states, the Swedes could not even say they were protecting protestants from persucution as Austria was protestan too. The Arch-Duke declared war on the viking king of Scandanavia. The war was a bloodbath with armies of 30k being routinely slaughtered on both sides, eventually a stalemate developed Austria had won on land but with no fleet the demons of the North had blockaded the Sund and hid behind their pirate fleet. Both sides came to ask for assistance in this war, henry thought long and hard about this choice. In the end, he thought I am going to be able to end the war sooner and save more lives if I side with the Austrians. A war fought across the plains of Holland will not go well for anyone, as his father had found out during his reign. So he sent the entire fleet and the main army headed by the military genius of the Welsh campaign into the Sund to break the blockade and force a quick end to the war. However Henry had underestimated the sheer war lust that all Scandanavians seem to have, armies of 50k were recruited amongst the villages by the mere mention of battle and loot, the english fleet cleared the channel and landed the army in the town of Bergenshus. The austrian army needed a distraction to have a chance of establishing a beachhead in Skane and our brave general was that distraction. Facing a numerically superior army in mountains with a heavy cavalry army did not bode well, but he was prepared to die in order to end the war. The swedes decided that an all out attack would be best and sent their beserkers in human waves to break our entrechments. However the charismatic general inspired his troops to give their lives for over 5 swedes, even the swedish horde couldn't sustain these losses and they pulled back, simultaneously the Austrians had crossed the Sund and had overrun the defenders at Skane, the swedes had pulled back to their capital as the austrian army marched onto swedish soil...

Sweden 1527 - 1545

Just some pictures with a little bit of commentary.

Battle with the Spanish, they were slaughtered here, none of them returned home. Right after this battle, Spain peaced out.

zaustriawskane.jpg

After English treachery their navy controlled Sund, it allowed Austrians to march into heart of my empire. After this battle (lost) Austrian hordes flooded Scandinavia.

zaustriasmaland.jpg

This is after France entered war on my side ( thank you ), English navy had to go back and defend a channel, I managed to assemble a new army and started to free up my land.

This is a battle were English famous leader, Henrys VIII bastard was killed with his whole army in the mountains of Ostlandet.

The reconquista continues :)
After the war England said that they were the winners, but at the end my troops recaptured all taken provinces and succesfully besieged Mecklenburg and Bremen also have a look at the stats and the losses, you will see who the real winner was

less peace and more war (the great northern war)

As the Austrian army marched victoriously across the calm waters of the Sund, great siege guns could be heard in the distance as half the swedish was routed in the sheer cliffs of Norway. The Austrian army showed superb disicpline as they spread out to seige the entirety of southern sweden, the English expeditionary force had stayed concentrated in the beachs of Ostetland as they tried to take the mighty stone fortress embedded in the rock. Assualting the place would be fruitless, not enough supplies could be ferrried in, although the swedish fleet had been decimates earlier they had hired pirateers and so our troops morale was not what it could have been. The year past in a air of quiet optimism, although the swedish army had been beaten once, they were regrouping in the far north with thousands of men yet the advantage lay with the invaders who now had nothing between them and the capital.
This confidence was crushed by the sighting of armies of 80K swedes marching from Stockholm, they blew past the 20K austrian armies with no effort what so-ever and annihilated to the last man the main Hapsburg army in Skane.
The brave general knew his position was hopeless and ordered the immediate evacuation to the fleet just offshore. Unfortunately at that point the remnants of the Swedish fleet had snuck out of harbour via old fishing ways and fell upon the English fleet with the wind at their aft.
Eyewitness account from captain Perkins of the British ship Iron Fist
"The swedes fell upon us from the rear with the wind at their back, they hurtled towards our lines firing blindly as they went, well sir then they started lobbing decapitated limbs at us, well me men couldn't face that it is something that should not be done under any circumstance. We brought our ships round but they were sluggish going against the wind and we were damn near horror struck by the blood and gore landing among us. We fought back and landed a broadside against a couple of the buggers but a fog had descended and we had all been warned about the dangers of the Sund, the fog was coming in from the east and our only safe direction was out to open sea, so we ran and left our lads there on that god-forsaken beach in Norway. Dear God, having to do that to them haunts me still but the fleet is the only protection we have against the French and that decision was in the end the right one, but that day still haunts me more than the dungeons of Vienna and the Bastille."
On shore the kings son saw the retreat of the fleet and knew that their was nowhere to run now, the armies of the King of the north were coming for him and he was going to kill a fair few of the bastards before they took him down, he gathered his men to him and gave a speech that has lived on in History
"Soldiers, we are now dead men. Our hope of retreat have been crushed and even now the enemy marches on us, but are we going to die here for no reason? every swede we kill now is one less to pillage and rape our homeland because the war will go on. You know they take no prisoners so do not disgrace your country by begging for surrender, here we stand and here we die and may we make the Swedes fear the wrath of the English Army!! We will give'em hell before we go !!!!"
The English army set up defensive postions upon the hills and valleys of the mountains and waited, the first swedish advance was halted before it even got to the barricades, again and again the swedes hurled themselves against the wall of men and steel and the line buckled and bent but the Prince charged into battle with his morningstar and hacked apart the enemy advance. The English line had now thinned so much that a breakthrough was inevitable but still they held the line till the sun set above the mountains when the swedes lanched a huge attack that ripped through the line but still they stood their ground until only the Prince was left with his morningstar dripping red with blood, after killing dozens of enemy elite troops he was shot down with crossbowmen and fell, without giving an inch of ground.
Thus ended the life of one of Englands greatest generals, as the first snow fell the allied armies retreated to wait out the winter, although it had been a severe defeat the enemy's economy and population were in dire straits and a surrender could not be delayed for long. But then the war entered a new phase as the treacherous French declared war upon England and Austria to 'help' poor sweden, Henry decided that the fleet was needed to guard Dover. Similiarly he decided that Calais and Flanders were lost for the moment at least until a new army could be recruited to replace the loss in Scandanavia. The French begun sieging the lowland provinces without much happening and the remains of the Austrian army tried an attack from Holland encountering atrocious losses.
In the Channel the future of England was being decided, the numerically superior French fleet was being fought to a standstill by the battered but triumphant englsih fleet. The French had bolstered their numbers by building tens of Galleys, however these light ships were turned into plywood by the better English warships and the rather inclement weather of the Channel. Again and again the galleys burned, belching oil from their hulls as the better led english fleet counterattacked ripping the heart from the French fleet, as the french fleet fled the english clippers harried and skimished driving the enemy further to sea and capsizing nearly all of the useless galleys. It war a heroic victory made wven more so by the mobilisation of a new army and the seizing of French tradeposts in canada. In the larger theatre the war was going badly for Austria who were now fighting Poland, who had advanced to Vienna. The imperial armies had collapsed and only the quick thinking and deployment of the English army into Zeeland stopped the Netherlands from being overrun by the commie-french. Europe was tired of war though and the Ottoman empire was now at war with Poland, so a status quo peace was signed between all participants. However Holstein was still at war with Austria and England, seeing that Holstein might rampage unchecked through Germany due to the collapse of the imperial armies. Henry authorised an attack and annexation of the north german state. The attack proceded without incident and Holstein now belonged to Henry who was eager to sell it to another continental power to encourage cooperation between the nationsof Europe, who would accept his offer of reconcilliation?

Sweden 1645 - 1562

It was a time of peace and economic grwoth for Sweden.
Our trade flourished and Sweden managed to keep 5 merchants in most of european Trade Centers. To further expand our trade second refinery was built in Jamtland.

This, along with a domestic policy reforms allowed Sweden to expierience unseen economic growth, as a result in last 17 years Swedish economy doubled and right now we are in top 3 welthiest nations of the world.

Foreign policy

Sweden acquired Pommern from Austria and new warm relations were established with the Archduke. Since Poland was given to the scavengers, Sweden decided to join a feast :) and got Danzig and Prussia.
Soon, Poland will be cut from Baltic coast.

Something still troubled our King's heart. Iberians, French and English all sailed to the New World and discovered rich lands there.
Unfortunately, none of the brave explorers enlisted to Swedish service. Something had to be done. When Klas Horn, excellent admiral joined us, we decided it's time to expand our navy and use it to acquire maps of the New World.
So, immedietly a new shipyard was built in Stckholm and our fleet was raised to a healthy number of 50 brand new warships.
Soon, our two great generals - Bo Grip and Klas Fleming, along with 60 k troops, boarded on the fleet and set sail to Lisbon, with a task of an unexpected, pirate style attack.
In the same time our diplomats were sent on secret missions and made shure that Spain will not intervene.

Right now Porto has fallen and Lisbon is ready to go down. Stay tuned for more info coming.

A little Spanish history

After a period of illness, when the Emperor of Spain could not properly rule its empire, in anno domini 1547, he could finally return to lead our glorious nation to victory.

Strangely enough, the year started with a declaration of war from the king of Poland, Carlos I being really surprised by this action of his friend Zygmunt I Stary of Poland. But our ambassadors in the other capitals of Europe sent word that the Polish king had gone mad and decided to wage war against all he thought had a bad reputation. It seems the stress of governing is too much for some people...

The king of Sweden, the archduke of Austria, the Sultan and the Czar decided to divide Poland, as king Zygmunt's madness was obviously hurting the brave Polish people, forced to fight a series of meaningless wars... While the Sultan kept making paymets to our neighbour king Joro III, king Henri II rose to throne in France. Naples' king died heirless, leving his kingdom to the mighty growing Spanish Empire.

We began to approach the Persian ambassador in Madrid to plan a war against the Ottoman Empire, the tyrant that held the rich Duchy of Firenze, where our Italian brothers suffered. As our valiant armies prepared to set sail for Africa, we received good news: Navarra decided to join our glorious nation. Persia was moving the last troops to the western border...

The "fake" war up north between the Austrians and the Swedes ended with Sweden taking Hinterpommern. In May 1549 Emperor Carlos publicly demanded Firenze from the Sultan. Our Persia allies followed us. In June they were sieging Aleppo, Syria and Samaria. Sivas, Judea and Crimea, Lebanon, Trabzon and Sinai shorlty followed. In Asia provinces were being taken, but at the expense of many brave soldiers. The Ottomans charged East, with an inhuman determination to push the Persians back to their homelands. Battles were lost in Sinai and Judea, while rebels in Persia were a constant pain for the government. Meanwhile, the Spanish armies under the duque of Alba were on their way to Africa and Firenze. On May 21st our beloved emperor accepted peace with the Turks, who offered Firenze.

Looking back on this decision, it might not have been the right one, as our allies in Persia were suffering at the hand of the mighty Turkish army.

Spanish attention was turned to America, where our vast and wealthy Empire was growing bigger and richer. America finally found peace with Spain and Portugal. American gold and silver flowed into our treasury... If only Persia can hold on for five mor years so we can attack the Sultan again... Our Emperor was very sorry for abadoning his allies. He could not think of anything else but going to war against the Ottomans once again.

The Russan Czar's consul in Wien tried to make the archduke believe that Veneto is actually an outpost from where Spain would attack the heart of Austria. Naturally our brave and wise ally did not believe such treachery...

In 1553 The Palatinat and Baden joined our military alliance. It was obvious for everyone that peace and well-being can be found only with Spain. The beginning o 1554 saw the rapid decline of Persian force in the muslim conflict that was pillaging Asia. By March, the Ottomans were controlling 4 Persian provinces...

June 28, 1555: Spain redeclared war on the infidels. Despite Spanish efforts in North Africa, Persia was forced to accept the peace, due to the harsh internal situation. Sochi, Jordan and Arabia became Ottoman provinces. Grrr...!

Felipe II rose to throne as Spanish Emperor when his father abdicated, and he reconsidered the war against the Ottoman Empire. He knew it was not fair to alternate wars on the two fronts. He wanted to remain a gentleman to the end, even with an infidel. In 1557, Spain accepted the peace offer of 275 ducats from the Turks. Still the Persian ally is not forgotten. The Spanish Emperor informs the Sultan that war against Persia means war against Spain too, at least until Persia recovers.

The year 1559 saw Spanish discoveries of French and English colonies in Potugal's sphere of influence, in Brazil. France is warned: stop colonizing or else!

In 1561 Sweden attcked Portugal to steal their maps from Lisbon. The Emperor agreed to take 300 ducats from king Erik for neutrality. I wonder where will Sweden colonize? If in Spain's area of influence, war will be certain. If in Portugal's, Spain will certainly not agree to this...

Felipe II wants to act as a mediator of a possible conflict that might arise because of English colonial policies between England and Portugal. A recent meeting with Queen Elizabeth of England turned out a really interesting one, as the Spanish and English monarchs planned out a near-future plan for their countries' development.

In adition to his beloved brother, the archduke, Felipe II wishes to have close relations with England, Portugal and Persia... Shah Thamвsp of Persia will probably be offered some money to help you deal with the rebels. Felipe II also wishes to give Portugal 150 ducats, half of the Swedish "neutrality fee". More talks will follow with king Sebastiao.

Carlos I, king of Castile, Aragon, Leon and Navarra, king of Italy and Sicily, Emperor of the New World and Protector of Roma.

First Ottomans failure 1545-1562

The Ottomans began the year 1545 with great hopes of being the first power
in the known world. Soon enough though, rumors was heard that a combined
Spanish-Persia coalition would take over the Ottomans Empire.

Trying to avoid a 2 front war, Suleyman agreed with Spain a peace proposal consisting of giving Tuscany to Spain, a rich province with a center of trade, leaving Persia as the sole enemy of the Ottomans.

Suleyman took his best lieutenants and set sail from Algiers to the Persian border where major theater of operation was taking place by the Persian leader. Suleyman proved his quality as a leader with rapid victory over the Persian Empire. With our economic advantage, it was only a matter of time before we could make a breach in the defense of Persia. Slowly but surely, we arrived at the heart of the enemey Empire and conquered the capital, forcing a peace with Persia. We acquired 3 new territory that are legal claims of the Sublime-Porte (Sochi, Jordan and Arabia).

The Sultan is concerned with the mighty power of the Spanish kingdom. We hope that others kingdoms of Europe will see the threat caused by the growing power of Spain.

The Sultan is also concerned by the Swedish attack against Portugal. We want to make clear that unless the Sultan reach an agreement with Sweden, war will occur against them. We wish a diplomatic agreement, as war is not profitable to anyone.

The year was 1545, the new King of Portugal came to power when his country was in a great need of good leadership, for several years the colonial expansion had stopped as the last monarch was ill and couldn't rule his country properly. Great explorers and conquistadors were lost due to unnessesarly wars in the north of Africa. At this point the great armies of the ottoman sultan were marching into these provinces that Portugal had conquered from his Algerien allied. The King realized that he would not profit from a war with Ottoman Empire and therefore he ceded all his claims on the north african provinces and accepted peace with the ottomans giving them the rule over north africa in exchange of money.
As soon as peace had been signed Sebastião I turned his attention to the New World. Much work had to be done as generations before him had ignored the advantage of having many colonies. He sent the famous conquistador Martim de Sousa to explore the southern parts of Brazil and after years of exploring Martim rounded the south peak of America and went up into the mountains to finally reach his destination the southest outpost of our migthy neighbour Spain. Many were those greeting him in the streets and the Spanish governor in the area invited him to stay for a while as they had many things to discuss about the future of Spanish and Portugese colonies in South America.
But the visit didn’t last for long as orders came from the king himself that Martim now should depart to Africa where his services where needed.
He succeeded in reaching our far colony of Karoo in South africa and then returned to explore the inner parts of africa.
In the mean time several colonies were set up in the west of Africa and our economy was starting to grow again, in this time of peace our country got a declaration of war from Sweden... The King first thought it was a mistake as our nation had never had any disputes with the men from the north, and as our glorious fleet was spread out in the world protecting our colonies from ravaging pirates we didn’t even see the enemy coming.
A great army of evil Swedes embarked on our mainland shores and before we could react they were sieging our capital. The king sent word to our great neighbour Spain to send aid in our great need. But to his surprise none came... The King was now desperate as he was trapped within the sieged walls of Lisbon and he knew he didn’t have the force too push back this attack alone, so he sent a messenger to the enemy general so that he could state their terms. When the messenger came back the King was surprised to hear that the enemy had attacked just to get maps of the new world that were stored in the national library of lisbon. Now he could only wait and hope that his demand for help would be amswered in time to save the beautiful capital.

The year of 1562 started and our beloved capital was under siege by the Swedes and would not last for long. But one of the messengers had returned with the news that the Spanish Emperor would intervene, so hope came back to the proud people of Lisbon. Months passed but still no aid came and the situation was getting desperate within the city walls. So came to pass that the great city of Lisbon fell and was looted by the enemy force, but this wasn’t enough for them so when they offered peace they claimed much more than they originally had said they wanted, they have no honour at all these men from the north. Finally a reaction came from Spain and the Swedes ran like dogs. Our great monarch Sebastião I didn’t stand the sight of his capital in flames and looted, and he was never the same after this tragic event. The King withdrew to one of his castles and didn’t do much in the remaining time of his regency, only once he gave actual orders during this time and that was to make a crusade to convert the heretics in Algiers. But at this point he didn’t have any actual power left so the money he raised for it was used to expand our colonies instead. A much more profitable investment.
In the following 20 years we successfully expanded many colonies in Africa and won the race against Ottoman Empire for the gold provinces in the middle of Africa. With the gold from these and the four monopolies we acquired in Europe we have been able to build up our economy, but we still have lots to catch up on the other countries of Europe as these past years have been very peaceful and the colonial race has been the major interest for many nations. Sweden has been expanding their colonial empire in our territory and we do not see kindly upon this. But in a bold move they acquired the province of Mallacca with a centre of trade and has now a strong position in Indonesia.
In the year 1578 Sebastião I was replaced with Henrique o Cardeal-Rei but his reign wasn’t long as The Emperor of Spain Felipe II claimed our throne and became the ruler of our country known in Lisbon as Filipe I. We still have our freedom left though and we will claim our independence as soon as possible.

The Calm Before the Storm

Queen Elizabeth's reign was a long and for the most part peaceful one, but this did not mean England did not face her share of challenges-however they were internal, the state conversion to reformed would cause grief for the years to come. Elizabeth proved a far more astute leader in this matter than the King/Emperor of Spain, and decided to take a more leisurely approach to conversion. She was quoted as saying "I really don't give a damn who they worship as long as they pay their taxes and don't kill my soldiers." She only financed 1 conversion attempt in the British Isles although the colonies got more than their fair share of preists. This program was a success with the 1 attempt in the UK succeding and despite early setbacks the colonies accepted Reformed as the only path to salvation. Elizabeth's lets leave Ireland alone policy also worked wonders as Leinster spontaneously converted after a really wild St Patricks day.
The european situation was remarkably quiet, everyone with the power to go to war was instead colonising, trying to presevere their power with dominions across the globe, For these deeds the names of Frobisher and Drake will live on in History, Thanks to Frobisher the Bourbon Islands were colonised giving the energetic explorer the jump of point he needed to explore the Indonesias and India itself. As more parts of the world were revealed to the brave men willing to sail into the horizon for Queen and Country spheres of influnce were being set up, Spain claimed the Carribiean and Mexico as well as much of southern america. portugal focused among the jungles of Brazil and the Indonesians and the surprise amongst the nations of the world was Sweden who set sail for far off Mallacca with Portuguese maps, After a long voyage the Swedes took Malacca and its centre of Trade and set up a base in the Phillipines. This ambitious venture set off ideas in the Admiralty, If we can sail troops from America to Bourbon and then to India we may be able to colonise the lands protected by thousands of angry natives. This was done without a single loss of a ship and the men landed upon the continent of India. However it was not plain sailing even then,
Sergeant Perkins the Second described the experience. "It was horrible, the natives would attack at any time just appearng from the jungle, our fleet had to sail back to restock so we were alone, we didn't know if we were forgotten about, if we were going to be reinforced and the attrition was killing us, a man lost here to a diesese, another to poison darts the natives use, and another simply gone mad with the stress of it. But we won in the end they simply had no more men left to throw at us we managed to kill a few here and there and it mounted up on them. Gosh were there celebrations that night, I remember some men finding an Opium plant, Well they were high as kite I immediately confiscated that and gave it to the officiers tent for disposal. The officiers seemed remarkably happy for the next few weeks, they must enjoy good discipline as well and we need it, we can not have ill discipline here or the natives will regroup and we can't face another guerllia war without reinforcements."

In order to finance these expeditions Elisabeth sold off Flandern and Calais to France in exchange for a sizable sum and the province of Delaware, leaving us with only holstein in Europe, but this is a symptom of change in the oreintation of England, seeing three wars fought and hundreds of thousands of men die for no reason, has discouraged Elisabeth from being too involved in European affairs. Time will tell if this was the right choice.
England was now one of the World leaders in trade and English merchants were now a common sight in European trading centres, Swedish and English merchants were now in a trade war in many places for the rich goods that came flooding back from the New World.
However many in Europe are speaking of a war to come, the kings grow restless and a few firebrands are describing war as the answer to their Kingdoms problems, this deeply troubled Elisabeth who knew that nothing good can come from war, and she decided that a policy of neutraliy was called for if a world war broke out English soldiers have no buisness fighting in Europe, unless someone can persuade her otherwise...

Russia is nearer to You

The turmoils in Poland due to the lack of a king gave us the chance of an expansion in eastern Europe; we captured many provs in last session ignoring baltic provs. We want to confirm our deals about borders with OE and with Sweden; but who could imagine the action of Austria in that area?
We got after many years the Pacific coast of Siberia and the border of Manchu, thanks to many conquistadores and there is now a safe strip to colonize with so many provs. The absence of nations like Khazaks, Uzbeks, Sibir, Nogai, Chagatai maybe can suggest to Persia the chance of expansion in central Asia. We'll see in the future, but I would suggest the perm to concentrate upon India, Arabia, Indocina.
Our economy grew in land tech, but more slowly in other fields; the international trade needs more application by us. No worries about our badboy or our inflation; anyway our best historical period must come yet.

less inflation pls
