1. Move the transports out of port, into the sea area next to the land province where the troops are standing.

2. click on the army and then when its highlighted, right click on the fleet.

3. Wait, dont move anything, a movement arrow will come up for the army showing its loading progress.

4. When the army has finished loading it will disappear and the fleet will now have the option to unload troops

5. You may now sail off with your army on board

All this only works if your fleet has the carrying capacity for the army. On the right of your fleet window it shows you the carrying capacity, and on the right of the army window it shows you the weight.

So Step 1.5 might be regorganise your army so that it is of low enough weight to be carried by that fleet.

And it takes far, far too long-I "love" watching march attrition occur, they must be getting drunk on the grog ration and drowning or something!:D

You have to start loading on the first day of the month, then they'll load without attrition. Cavalry can start later. (Although I don't understand how cavalry can load faster than infantry - they must ride those horses all the way into the hold).

I know, I know-just as if you take it one province a month you can cross the world with no loss. It's just gamesmanship.:)

woulnd't this be consider cheating? Why not the play the game in a
most natural way?

Technically it is, but it's inevitable with the way the game engine models attrition... a small number of soldiers should desert every day, not just tot it up at the end of the month. Then again, "knowing" where to send the explorers is cheating (the AI doesn't, historically nobody did....) but you can't lobotomise yourself so as not to know, can you :D

Anyway nobody will complain about avoiding attrition just to get your soldiers on board ship .. they're still in the damn harbour, how can they not have supplies?? And how exactly does anyone desert from a tugboat? Dive overboard and swim to France?

Actually, the AI does seem to know, as it always explores the same areas in the same order in the early game-or aren't you surprised that Spain always sends Columbus west instead of south to Africa, or south-west to Brazil, or North West to Nova Scotia?:)

Agree. All my early game stolen rutters have been carbon copies.
