I'm really new (got the game yesterday) and am at the "completely baffled" stage -- but am also thoroughly enthralled by the game. Anyway, can anyone give me some idea of how long it takes to complete some of the scenarios? The Grand Campaign? Also, the default setting for the passage of time seems a bit slow -- but when I speed it up I seem to be missing things. Any words of advice from those of you who have been playing for a while?

Oh, one more thing. Suggestions on where to start? A good learning scenario (other than the tutorial).

Thanks!:)

How long it takes depends on how u play. If ur rather new to the game, I guess it will go quite slow. Switch the time speed when u feel u can handle it.

Very imporant however is the pause button. It is ur friend. Use it often :D Also u can set important messages as a pop up with pause. Use that. U don't wanna miss that leader or stuff like that.

The best way to learn the game is to start a grand campaign with a major. If u wanna learn about warfare play Russia or Turkey. If u wanna play isolated colonial, trading games, go for England or Portugal.

France and Spain are a good mix and also the strongest countries out there.

Russia seems the most popular to start with to learn as its objectives are clear and eventualy u can also learn about colonisation when u get to Siberia.

It takes me 2-3 weeks to finish one GC. Playing quite often. Usually i go for 1min 2 years, but i pause and pause and pause. So be prepared to waste a lot of time.

The tutorial is good at learning how to use the game interface, but it will teach you nothing about game strategy. You can best pick that up by playing a Grand Campaign ... Russia if you want to learn how to fight and conquer everyone in sight, England if you want a fairly quiet game, or Spain if you want to go mad and colonise the world. There's also a bunch of threads here on tactics for various nations, and you can always post more questions - we don't object to answering the same question 50 times, as it gets our post counts up :D

Jen,

A good way to control the pace of the game is by modifying the messaging system to suit your needs. You can set some of the message to automatically pause the game when triggered. If you use this effectively, you can play the game more optimally.

All the other people explained the nations to play wisely. Actually, you can play with any nation you want to just get a feel of how things work out in EU. Even before you complete the game, you can switch to a nation that is most suitable for you.

Good luck and welcome to the community!

:)
