Hi folks. I stumbled upon the game this weekend and am terribly excited about it. I've played some, red some of the FAQ's but still have some questions...

1. What do the colors on the counties represent? Blues/greens/whites etc? Do they have any gameplay reason for being?

2. I think I understand the concept of the badboy rating (but don't know my score) and I think mine is fairly high since I've been pounding Scotland for 60 years. (Finally achieved Annexation). In the interum, I lost Kent and two counties in Ireland. How do you suggest I get Kent back from France? I can successfully storm the county and take control, but I can get France to give it back when I demand it through a peace treaty. They refuse, then come over an beat the tar out of me everywhere else. While this seems appropriate given it's size, it makes me angry since I want my land back.

3. On the political Map - I have deduced (huge leap in logic I know) that I am at war with a country when there is flame around the shield. Does it mean I am allied with someone when there is a fist with thunderbolts?

Thanks for the help

One More

I just remembered...

As I played my first game, I achieved several VP's for performing missions. I successfully got 40+ VP's, but whenever I did F1 to see the VP leaders, all the countries had 0. When I quit the game - all of the data displayed is zero as well...

1. The colors depend on the map screen mode. On the political map (the crossed flags), they show who owns what. On the diplomacy map (the treaty), they show either the alliances or the relations between nations (depending on which mode you have toggled at the top of the screen). On the economic map (the coins), they show the Various Centers of Trade.

On the normal map (the tree), they show the terrain type. The terrain types and colors are:

White = Plains (1 movement pt.)
Green = Forest (1.25)
Yellow = Desert (1.25)
Aqua = Marsh (1.5)
Brown = Mountains (1.75)
River crossings (+1 movement pt.)
National borders (+0.5 movement pt.)

Terrain affects movement, combat and attrition.

2. You'll have a tough time with France until you can grow stronger. There's no magic here. They're just stronger than you at the beginning of the game. Wait until they are embroiled in another big war somewhere else, then move on Kent.

3. On the political map, the symbols over the shields show various alliances, marriages, vassals, etc.

Check out the FAQs at http://members.nbci.com/huszics/indexeu.html and http://home.hetnet.nl/~copia-fs/faq/ They answers a lot of these questions and more. Good luck. :)

Thanks Olaf - I'll check the one FAQ when i get home as it is blocked here at work. (ugh) The other I've read a quite a bit of, but hadn't run past those. Your answers on the colors is exactly what I was looking for!

To Bib - I honestly don't know. I've only done the start up thing 2 times, and may have missed that switch. I was in a hurry to start!
