where are the logs kept? before it switches to the getting started screen and crashing iit's showing 2023.14 - my apologies there is a folder in the .paradoxlauncher folder that states 2023.14.1 so I did the bad thing and assumed - sorry.

Maybe the launcher already starts the update to 2023.14.1, but is unable to complete it before it crashes. I think ck3 might ship 2023.14 per default. You could uninstall the launcher by deleting the ~/.paradoxlauncher folder and then either start a different game which ships with an older launcher or start an older version of ck3 (you can select it in the betas list in the properties of the game in the steam library). This will install an older launcher version and if you let it run for a while, it will update to 2023.14.1. Then you can start it again to make sure it is working and then you can start the normal ck3 version again and now it should use 2023.14.1.

Or you could use some of the instructions from the following comment to get an older launcher version in different ways: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...-does-not-work-on-linux.1606188/post-29238205

I am having the same issue, the Paradox launcher opens, the closes and reopens, and then closes again. This started happening on my laptop, but started on my computer like a day later. Does anyone know where I can find the launcher logs? Also can you guys get into HOI4 by bypassing the launcher on startup?

The launcher log files are in $XDG_DATA_HOME/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2 (if $XDG_DATA_HOME is set) or in ~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2

Which launcher version do you have in ~/.paradoxlauncher? If it is 2023.14, try to delete that folder to see if it helps. If starting the game again just brings back the broken version 2023.14, you can use the instructions from my previous comment or from the comment which I linked there. If you download a launcher version as the solution, you can use https://launcher.paradoxinteractive.com/v2/paradox-launcher-installer-linux to get the newest launcher version (currently 2023.16) instead of using 2023.13

I have a seemingly related issue, going by the time frame, but for me, the launcher never crashed. The issue lies in syncing. For some reason, when syncing mods, it will take 30+ minutes on relatively new games like vic3, where I haven't subscribed to too many mods and over an hour for eu4/ck3 where I have a relatively large subscription list. This is a PITA whenever I add a new mod, seeing as it takes ages for it to show up, so that I can finally use it. Everything else works fine.

Seeing the connection issues mentioned about electron, I checked the log for the launcher and noticed several minute long timeouts, where it fails to fetch the preview images. This would explain why new mods don't get previews anymore either (although I have seen mods, on updates gain images after some time).

EDIT:
OS: Fedora Linux 39 (KDE Plasma) x86_64
Kernel: 6.6.4-200.fc39.x86_64
Mesa drivers: 23.2.1-2.fc39

@Avald - Thank you for your report. It appears that this is about Steam Workshop mods, right?

As an aside - and this goes for several posters here - please, please, please for the love of [DEITY] report issues in relevant threads. If you have a 2023.14 bug that causes the launcher to not work on Linux, by all means post in this thread. If you don't then please make a thread for your issue or attach to one that is about something at least vaguely resembling your problem. Thank you for your cooperation citizen!

Just a guess here... maybe it's Electron the problem. The launcher is based on Electron, right ?
Yes, it is. Electron updates are the reason the latest launchers no longer run on obsolete Windows versions, for instance.

Whether Electron has anything to so do with the 2023.14 bug on Linux, I have no idea.

I apologize for the late response. Yes it was an issue with how the launcher was requesting the preview images from wherever (presumably the workshop), which then caused it to take ages to actually update the list of mods available.

I can report that whatever issue was afflicting me has resolved itself. After starting up CK3 yesterday, I noticed a markable improvement in speed of it syncing and found that it was finally showcasing all the thumbnail preview images. Today I checked EU4 as well, and the same can be reported there. Very happy right now about this turn of events.

I don't know what got fixed, but if you guys still have an issue open in regards to my exact problem, you can close it.

EDIT: typo
