I bought Stellaris yesterday during a sale and I am currently not getting any sound in the launcher or the game, I've updated my drivers, deleted the settings.txt, checked my volume mixer, and verified the files and its no good. Any and all advice would be appreciated, Thank you!

I see you have CK2, does that have the same problem?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .

Thank you for the reply! CK2 does not have the same problem, I have attached the files below

That dxdiag is interesting; it shows RealTek speakers, but just the default HdAudio.sys sound driver from Microsoft - no Realtek driver (which is usually what causes these things). Do you know what the actual audio device is?

That said I cannot think what would cause this problem to this game but not CK2, they are pretty similar under the covers (although a few years apart of course).

You get no music, sound effects or ambient sounds, is that right?

I believe both my headphones and speakers are still trying to use the Realtek driver, but I swapped to the default earlier. Yes, that's right, no sounds at all in game

For what it is worth, I have integrated Realtek S1200A on the motherboard and the driver is same as the OP, everything works.

OP: I would check Windows' sound settings. Sometimes Windows changes default audio devices if you plug or unplug USB devices with speakers or microphones or both (eg. web cameras, USB mics etc).

Settings -> System -> Sound and check the correct device is set as default. Alternatively you can use the old style settings window if you scroll down and click "Sound Control Panel" as it has some extra options and better UI if you ask me.

I checked that and everything seemed fine, my headphones are the default audio device when they are plugged in, thank you for the input!

I don't see the Realtek driver in there at all. What happens if you try to install it?

Hmmm, I think you have more general audio issues in this Windows installation that just our game!

@rubert from what you see here would you agree?

Does the sound work if you just use the integrated speakers as I believe your computer is a laptop? Are you connecting the headphones before or after starting the launcher and Stellaris? Some games don't notice the default sound output device changing so try to plug them before starting if you were plugging them after.

If you have a custom volume mixer (eg. EarTrumpet from Microsoft's app store or if drivers installed one) which allows you to change volume and mute specific applications I would double check that you haven't accidentally muted launcher or Stellaris.

If the sound works fine in other software and Windows with the previous drivers then I'd say the problem is more likely in Stellaris or in some settings.

These seems to be the latest sound driver from Dell for Alienware 15 R4 so if you tried to install some other drivers which failed to work these might be worth a shot: https://www.dell.com/support/home/e...code=wt64a&productcode=alienware-15-r4&lwp=rt

Though in most case Windows Update should provide the drivers without issues even if they can be bit older sometimes.

The sound does not

I plug my headphones in before I start and recieve no audio, I also get no sound through my integrated speakers, If i update my driver with that link it merges my headphones and speakers into one audio device which makes my microphone cease to function, while not fixing the Stellaris audio issue. Something else I noticed about the game is that the music player is completely empty if I click on it in-game, maybe that has something to do with it?

That sounds bizarre, because the music player should not be empty even with sound off.

I would uninstall the game entirely, remove any leftover files from Steam's folder (Steam\steamapps\common\Stellaris), remove or move the files in Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris and unsubscribe/disable any and all mods you might have and the install the game again and see if that helps.

Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris contains screenshots, settings, local mods etc. so backup it if needed.

So, I've seen posts as far back as 2016 and still no clear answer to this fix.... Quite ridiculous for a 50-60$ game on steam. I've never had audio issues with any games ever besides this game.
I'm happy to help if you'll provide the files you see in this thread, thanks.
