Hey! I recently bought the game during the steam summer sale, and as soon as I launched it I was faced with this error. So far, I haven't installed any mods or tampered with the game files in any way, this is a completely clean install. The game itself manages to launch after the error message is closed, but there isn't any audio output. The message pops up with and without headphones plugged in. All drivers have been updated, I've checked the integrity of game files, and I've also uninstalled and reinstalled several times. In-game settings don't seem to affect it at all either. I'm currently using windows on a laptop, any help would be very appreciated.

The site won't let me create the post with an image, for some reason, but the error itself is a little like this:
"Fatal Error
Failed to open audio output device:"No available audio device""

Please attach here the game log C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Introversion\Prison Architect\debug.txt
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

AND DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

I can only guess the audio driver is not installed properly, or needs to be a different version.

Please try uninstalling it in the Windows Device manager, then reboot. Windows should detect the audio hardware has no driver, and offer to install one - hopefully a different version than you have.

Good luck!

That doesn't seem to be it. I've uninstalled and re-installed my audio drivers and rebooted several times, but it doesn't seem to really do anything.
The error also pops up any time I change and apply the "Swap stereo" option in the audio menu.

Did you end up with the same RealTek driver version? or a different one?

It was the same version as before, yeah.
Well no wonder it still has a problem!

I found the installer I was looking for:
Realtek-ALC3266-Audio-Driver_0V67W_WIN_6.0.1.8098_A04.EXE
See if searching will find that on the RealTek site (which I know is otherwise a nightmare to navigate!).

I'm not aware of anything else actually. That driver I linked is definitely installed now, you see the different version in dxdiag?

I'm not sure whether you mean it is the same as it was originally, or the same as the (older) one in the file I referenced for you ... ?

Well I don't know then. There's clearly a problem in the audio in Windows, or the driver itself, such that the game cannot find it. I don't recall this happening with this game before but other unrelated ones such as Imperator, and the driver version has helped in those cases.

You don't have any codec packs installed by any chance?

Codecs are a Windows-wide thing, they are not particular to a game or app. But if you didn't install any you don't have them.

I would bet a Windows reinstall or reset would fix this, but that's a lot to tackle just for this issue!

If the RealTek support site was easier to navigate I'd suggest just trying older and newer versions of their driver.
