I'll post here, since this is closer to tech support than anything else ...

One of my computers (a laptop) has a dead CD drive, which is a real pain in a number of ways, but the computer tech support have failed to fix it the last two times I've shipped the computer in, so it doesn't look really likely. And most software can be installed via a network ... and since this is a work machine, there are limits to what I can do with it.

I have found that patch 1.07 can be run perfectly without the CD in the drive [Actually, it *is* in the drive, since occasionally the drive works, but most of the time Windows can't detect the formatting on the disc (so it keeps asking me if I want to format the disc ...)]. However, patch 1.08 seems to require the CD ...

Can others confirm that this is the case (and that I'm not just incompetnet)? Does anyone have any thoughts on a workaround that would allow me to use patch 1.08?

Thanks

It might depend on your version's publisher but 1.08 doesn't need the CD for me (Strategy First).

Patches since around 1.05 have not required the CD.
