Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

That's why you are still posting. ;) :p :D

I am experiencing this problem also. No music.

This system is older but meets the recommended requirements:

EU II version 1.08 - downloaded from Paradox on-Demand
HP Vectra PII 350 MHZ
128 MB RAM
Windows XP Pro (5.1 Build 2600)
3.65 GB free space on c:
DirectX 9.0c
Video - Matrox MGA-G100 AGP 4.0 MB Driver: mgaud.dll (5.00.2600.1820)
Sound - Sound Blaster 16 Driver: ctlsb16.sys (5.01.2501.0000)

The game appears to run fine except no music. I get the cannon and trumpet sounds etc. The opening sequence works, sound included. Just no music during the game.

I have tried the things mentioned in this post: updating sound and video drivers, disabling the opening sequence (re-naming the avi folder), letting the opening sequence play straight through, checking the in-game settings and the "EU2 Settings" program but to no avail.

I enjoy the game, but the lack of music is frustrating. All the music files are on my hard drive and I can play them outside of the game.

I have run the DirextX Diagnostics program and can forward the resulting text file if that would help.

I'd really appreciate some assistance.

Thanks.

Frankly on that much memory you should be grateful it runs at all :) IMO you need at least 354mb, preferably 512mb, for XP + EU2.

It does not meet the specs for the combination you have XP with 128 megs is just insanity, if you could not get more memory you should never have left 98/ME.

However bygones. :)

Please follow the instructions I gave above regrading DXdiag.

Refund

In that case the system requirements are incorrectly stated and I'd like my purchase refunded. I chose EU2 specifically because the requirements indicated it could run on my older system.

So who do I contact for that?

I suppose the specs could explicitly say that with later versions of Windows you need more RAM purely because the OS needs more memory, I guess it wasn't felt necessary to spell that out. 64mb is adequate (barely) for EU2 with Win98, but not with WinXP - I'm not sure XP by itself would run in 64mb. Remember that when EU2 was first released XP didn't even exist.

In any case it's not that program won't run, but you just have to do without a piece of chrome, the music. Is that really such a big deal for you? You could turn music off and just play the MP3s, or any CDs you feel appropriate, via WMP in the background if so.

I think I know what the min req. are. ;)
But thanks for posting them.

1) The game does run you just cannot enjoy all the features. this is common in video games when you only meet the minimum requirements. I play many games where even my much more advanced system cannot turn on all the graphic settings at their highest settings.

2) I never said we could not help you to fix the problem you are having, I merely comment that it did not meet the spec for the combination you have. Really XP should not be run on it's own with just 128Meg. But if you choose to do it, that is your concern. I never said anything about minimum specs. ;)

3) I said bygones to let you know to forget about that and lets help you, I their fore ask you to provide me with the information in order to help. Something you should have provided in the first place if you had read the big sticky that says, "*** IMPORTANT: READ BEFORE POSTING HERE *** "

4) You hi-jack someone else’s thread, and since you are new I let that slide.

So what was the result?

You do not provide the info I requested so I could help you, instead you post condescending comments and demand refunds.

I apologize for not starting a new thread. As for a "sticky" I never heard of an electronic variety - I'm not a forum visitor, computer expert, netizen or Caltech graduate, just average-joe, computer illiterate consumer.

I bought a game based on assertions, presumably from the manufacturer, that indicated my system met the recommended requirements. There were no warnings that I might have trouble because my computer's memory is not sufficient.

As for condescending remarks,

"It does not meet the specs for the combination you have XP with 128 megs is just insanity, if you could not get more memory you should never have left 98/ME." - Castellon

I did not initiate the condescending remarks.

Thanks for making my experience with Paradox so positive.

Perhaps I'll revert to a medium I'm more familiar with, ink and paper, and send Paradox a letter...provided the mailing address given on the website is correct.

My remarks were not condescending, simply a statement of reality.
With that little memory you are far better off with Win98 or ME.

As for stick threads, all that means is they are locked on the top of the forum, so they are always visible. Really you cannot miss them, especially that one with all the Asterisks to call attention to it. :) And since you are here you are by definition a "forum visitor" ;)

And Again, I don't see your problem being a related to a min spec issue.

I am sorry you did not have a good experience, but generally you get out of things what you put into them.

Hi, have you followed all my standard advice?

1) Make sure you have the latest patch for the game.
2) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
3) Set the color depth to 16BIT
4) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
5) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

Done, same outcome; sounds but no music. I'm not using the beta patches if that makes a difference, I wasn't sure if I should use them, couldn't see anywhere if the .exe changes in them affected the version from paradox-on-demand?

Well the one person that had this solved it by playing the intro movies without skipping them, if you do this does it help you?

Ok, by the way I tried it with sound acceleration all the way off as well as on and neither works. Sound effects work, but no music. Have tried 16 bit colour as well as 32. I want falalalala... arg..

here is the dxdiag results:

Not really seeing anything major here.

Some things for your self:
You should update your operating system to SP2 plus all updates released since.
Also your Video card driver is a little out of date.

I doubt either would cause the music not to play.
The only work around is to play them in Win Amp or simmilar program, since they are in standard MP3 format.

Why it is not working for you I really do not know I think I would have to be in front of the system to determine that.
