First confirm that if you play one of the .mp3 files supplied in the game via WMP it works OK. If so it's almost certainly a codec problem, Google for and install the k-lite codec pack.
I have the same problem as you. In the thread about Europa Universalis III is also trying to find help, but I have a Rome and the same problem as in EU III.
Already installed the latest K-Lite codecs (6.6.6 - what a number!
) and unfortunately did not help. I tried also with other codecs.MP3 files are played correctly in WMP.
If you find a solution, write on the forum, please.
In my experience this is virtually ALWAYS a codec problem. You may have to remove all other codecs too, and only then install k-lite.
