Hi everybody,
I have Victoria v1.01, PIII 800 Mhz processor, Windows 98 operating system.
Last week, my PC was experiencing severe technical difficulties, so I took it to a computer store. The technical assistant said that my graphics card was faulty, and was causing problems, so he replaced it with an identical graphics card (Nvidia GeForce2 MX-400 64MB). The only difference between the new graphics card and the old is that the old one was made by HIS while the new one was made by Axle (Triple D Corporation). When I got my computer back, I attempted to play Victoria with no success. The introduction plays (the bink player I think) but before the loading screen appears, the games CTDs. I tried a few times, but still the game would not load. I re-installed Victoria several times, but the problem was still there. I finally went to the Victoria_settings and noticed that there were no resolution options anymore! In the resolution setting, there is nothing there at all. The game no longer has a resolution setting.
I took my computer back to the computer store, and when the tech guy hooked my hardrive up to his monitor, the game worked! The tech guy said he had no idea why it didn't work before, but it should now. So I took my hardrive back home, but it didn't work again. It worked in the computer store, but not at home, and I am at a complete loss as to what is happening. I telephoned the techguy who was quite uninterested, and he was unable to offer an explanation. He said I could bring my PC back to him if I wanted, but I don't think there is much point.
I then proceeded to send an email message to Nvidia, who forwared the message onto the actual makers of the graphics card, Axle, a division of a Hong Kong based chip maker named Triple D. They have not not replied to my message yet, which I sent them well over 48 hours ago.
At this point, I have no idea what is happeing. Victoria played perfectly with my old graphics card, which is (from what I can tell) the exact same graphics card as my new one (GeForce2 MX-400 64 MB). The techguy who installed the new card is convinced there is nothing wrong with the card, and he doesn't seem willing to help. The card is directX compatible, and I have directX version 9 which is required for Victoria.
Could someonep please help me, I will appraciate any assistance.
Thanks in advance.
