I downloaded vanilla (i.e., no mods, DLCs, or extension packs) Stellaris today (3/12) and I have three issues...

(1) After a while, I get a prompt saying I can have a Tradition (I show 340 Unity points), but all the tradition entries say "Empty".

(2) I have no Outliner on the right side of the screen. There is a just large icon which conveys no clue to me for what it is about and nothing happens when I LMB or RMB click on it.

(3) There doesn't seem to be anyway to get to the Galaxy map, except through the trade routes option. But then my selection of a science ship in the System map goes away and I have to find the itty-bitty icon on that map. Is that the way it is supposed to work?!?!?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders
In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new galaxy, NOT any existing one

Do you still have these issues then?

I did everything exactly except making a hole in my firewall and I still had the same problems. I also get a red warning message during game setup saying "Achievements" are not available, whatever they are.

If this game won't run without a firewall backdoor, then I want my money back because there is no way that I create that sort of security problem for my LAN. [The fact that the Paradox website requires cookies says a lot about Paradox computer security. There's a reason why firewalls block them by default.]

I did not suggest making a hole in your firewall, as they have nothing to do with such issues - they only govern external communications. What I mentioned there was your antivirus app, an entirely unrelated function.

If you have any mods enabled, that is normal. If you do not, you'd need to select Ironman mode to enable achievements.

The A-V package provides the firewall. What you suggested was that I allow Stellaris to communicate externally in a way that the firewall would normally prohibit. Allowing that communication is a firewall issue. That creates a hole in the firewall protection (nonstandard port, hot patch to the application, respond to a different website, whatever) for that application that bypasses the normal A-V scanning. There is no way I will do that.

I have no mods installed, so I guess I would need Ironman. It would be nice if the message clarified what mod was needed or Ironman for a new player.

BTW, I do appreciate your timely responses concerning this problem, even though I don't like the solution. That's somewhat of a rarity for PC games.

Again, I said no such thing. All I'm suggesting is to except the .exe from antivirus functions, NOT from firewall functions - even if they are part of the same app. There will be separate exceptions lists for those two unrelated functions.

If you don't want to do that, fine, but please do not mischaracterize what I said.
