As the title says. I vaguely remember reading it on the forums somewhere but I can't find the specific thread, no doubt it's been suggested before though. Makes perfect sense though, that a pop would rather shift it's culture to something more familiar (i.e. within its group) rather than shift groups altogether.

The absolute best scenario IMO would be that implemented by the Gladio et Sale mod (which is sadly in a development hiatus) whereby a generic accepted culture for each group, for example 'Hellenized' for the Hellenic group, 'Romanized' for Italic/Roman etc would be the only culture that external culture groups could integrate to. This represents cultural melting pots and the fact that further flung citizens of an empire would often only loosely adopt the primary imperial culture. It adds a great deal of flavour, but the mod went the further step of making this culture group have a lower base happiness to represent the looser associations to the 'homeland'.

I previously suggested something similar in my compilation of suggestions.

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...ngs-to-improve-the-player-experience.1461325/

Better assimilation: pops should prefer to assimilate into integrated cultures in their group in the first instance, the largest integrated culture in the province/territory if no culture in their group is integrated, and to the primary culture otherwise. This would result in more diverse empires, and would also ensure integration matters long term (and create more realistic cultural distribution).

There is also this thread:

I say this largely to show you have some support in this suggestion.

I post just after the patch that allowed to have another accepted culture this very idea, that :

Non-accepted cultures preferentially assimilate to accepted cultures within that group

Al that time I added IF in that Province "the accepted culture within group" is a mayority.

Lets put an example: Im Rome and accept Macedonian

1- An athenian that migrate to Rome, would assimilate to roman, as the primary culture group there is Roman and Italian subgroup

2- An athenian migrates to Pella, where the mayority is Macedonian, it would integrate to Macedonian, as share same culture group

3- An athenian in athens, it should prefeer to assimiliate to Macedonian, while no mayority in itelf, is the MAYORITY OF THE CULTURE GROUP similar to pop.

4- An athenian migrate to Carthage, it will assimilate to ROMAN, because the mayority of the culture group is Levantine, wich athenian does not belong to.

This system seems the best as it gives a realistic approach to integration, is actually very simple, if got any question or suggestion feel free to ask.
