It's not so great when you go to view the update to see what has changed/been fixed and get...

So what exactly was steam updating. it even prompted to allow a visual redistributable to install, but as per you, you haven't done any updates within the last year. Spyware? Bitcoin mining leveraging? Fictitious updates are not my favourite thing.
