Yeah i tried going into spain, but i went into the negative. Then one of the arab lords is at war with me and refuses peace even though i beat stack after stack they send to my territory.

Got another question regarding getting more gold. What should i look for when moving the sliders in treasury screen? Which are the optimal sliders?

The higher the tax rates, the greater loyalty loss for that particular type of citizen (noble, burgher of peasant). As you research certain things and build certain structures they will offset this loss and you can raise taxes accordingly. But you will be blocked from raising taxes past a certain point as you can see by experimenting with the sliders.

Last two questions. How can i go on a crusade if having a single army active gets my gold into the negatives quickly? How many reserves should i have? Also, if i grant a count title, the person that recieves it is my vassal?
Thanks.

Well, if you click your army, you 'll see how much it costs monthly. Then you know how much you need. ;)

If you are above count level , then the receiving one will be your vassal.

Why dont you just save and play around or do a cheating game to get accustomed with gameplay and mechanics.
Take the republics patch, play as venice, use cheats and learn, thats the way i did it.

Yeah, im a Duke in Ireland :p Im slowly expanding though. But yeah, the highest amount of money i had was 500, and that is because arabs offered lots of money for peace.

i wouldn't bother going to jerusalem. there might be some interesting opportunities in spain though.

the crusades thing really only matters for powerful kings and dukes. you can offset the piety loss, in most cases, simply by donating to the church, which is way cheaper than marching off to palestine from eire.

OTOH, spain is often the target of crusades, particularly Burgos. If you get one of these, and the saracen looks splintered, it might be a wonderful opportunity to pick up some nice territories in northern Leon.

Tried, but went bankrupt :p i need a nicely sized army + transport payment to get there.

the fact is that you are routinely going to go bankrupt - it's pretty much inevitable when you wage a war.

the question is: can you make the war worth it?

Granting a count title to a family member, automatically makes him my vassal?

I already tried to answer this:
"If you're above count, then the receiving one will be your vassal."

Think of it like a hierarchical pyramid. Emperor-King-Duke-Count (lowest). Your vassals need to be on a lower level than you.

So in your example you have to own a title above Count level and your family member/courtier will become your vassal. Yes.
Of course only if your family member isnt a landowner and vassal of somebody else already. That should be obvious. ;)

hi. so after reinstalling the game i have again some questions. im playing my nemisis yes byzantium. my questions are:
- one of my provinces joint the seljuk turks and i havent got a message or something and another vassal of mine whose territory borders the naughty naughty province is at war with the seljuks and this war started without a message too.
-(another situation) one of my vassals declared war on the seljuks. how can he do that. somethin like: yeah everything is fine emporer. oh i forgot. its really not important. i declared war on the neighbouring superpower...

Your vassals are able to start wars on their own, if they want to. It may or may not be a smart move but they do have this power. When one of your vassals starts a war -- or when someone else starts a war against them -- you should get an automatic message inviting you to join in defense and support of your vassal. If you didn't get this message then maybe your message settings aren't right? Or maybe you clicked through it by mistake during a series of spam message popups?

yeah correct in the second case i got a message asking me if want to join them. is there a way to avoid those war declarations ?
and what about the other problem

ps. i have restarted the save 4 times and fracking armenia minor declares war on the seljuks ( they dont have a common border or anything) all the time. this is ridiculous !!!
i have come to believe that one can only play this game with cheats

pps: ok have cheated to make peace with the seljuks and one month after that armenia minor AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!! declared war on them.
im playing the dv improvement pack. is that the reason for this mess?

ppps: wow, this is so stupid. i have given armenia minor to my 6 !!! year old son and he declared war on the emirate of arabs after 1 month in power. oh, boy ...

When i played Byzantium, that happened to me as well and there seems to be only one way to go....expand into the seljuk turks realm.
No need to cheat.

another odd thing. the kingdom of poland and 3 month later the count of silesia declared war on the count of athen. poland cannot reach athen without well i guess airplanes and its the same with silesia.
my question is. is that behaviour normal or have i made a mistake during installation and if that is normal ai behaviour could someone explain that to me. the game seems to be broken. i mean silesia declaring war on athen....

In CK you can march your army through territory outside your realm as long as it is owned (or controlled?) by someone of the same faith. That is, any Christian ruler can march through any other Christian ruler's realm -- taking normal attrition in the process. So the King of Poland could indeed march and/or sail to attack Athens if he wanted to. It may or may not be a smart move but he can do that.
