Sounds like there's some troubled times in England. A real shame that the game itself doesn't always simulate all of these things...

Excellent work :)

Well the game is being played slowly, and south provinces of England are being pillaged technically - including exeter. These things have an effect on storyline to an extent :)

Another great update. Very nice. The language, especially, was very precise and enjoyable. :)

Very well done again, keeping to history with St. Margaret

How about another update jeff. Oh...and the character writer of the week award is due to be passed on to someone else. Send me a PM if you aren't sure how to proceed with that. :)

of the Hill Forests

The sky was grey and ebbed with the endless clouds of the heavens, the sun seemingly so far away it had abandoned England. In the south, blood spilled - in the north things were quiet as the English theigns and nobles plotted amidst the dark black of night and secretly strengthened their castles for the eventuality that they all saw at the back of their mind. It was is God himself was reminding them of the cause.
The cause.

In times of past the English saxon lords would ride their lands freely, and continuing this tradition the Earl Morcar passed through the hill lands on road the the west countries where his powerful and dear brother ruled. While he knew well his duty to his family he had with his wife conceived God`s will of a child - although a son or daughter they still knew not. He was so proud, however, the Earl decided to deliver the news to his brother himself.
And so passing through his familiar childhood lands of the hills, he found the way to Bernicia, and the great forest. A dangerous place, he always was unnerved to enter it. There were the ancient and strange folk of the land of the far west whom once lived here, their strange druids and ways it was whispered lived on amongst the strange people whom inhabited that land. Druids and sorceresses were not even the worst of stories - his mother had told him stories of fairies and demonfolk whom walked through the woods beyond the focus of the eye of men. She told him whispers could be heard amidst the trees and leaves, and that if one is there long enough and is quiet just to hear, one might even catch a glimpse of the mythic creatures that live beneath the hills and in the trees.

Passing into this place, the earl still felt glad he had his sword in it`s sheath. Riding alongside rows of trees along the ancient paths of the Bernician forests, he could feel the sky becoming darker as the shade of trees overtook the view of the deep gray above him. The earl rode on as a chilling wind pass through the trees, blowing the leaves into a delicate dance as they whisped on in circles, passing by with an almost rhythmic dance, the wind making it`s song as it passed narrow regions of the treed wood. The steady gallop of his steed seemed to grow less and less noticeable as the wind`s song grew, and even so much so to a strange level, it seemed to the earl -almost- as if there was some tone in it. One of a deep and longing call from far off to reach.
Then the horse cried out and stood, `Calm down...` Morcar said, rubbing the beast`s neck.
Then, another blast of wind. This time the horse truly panicked, and climbing off of his animal, Morcar saw a well kept dwelling in the distance of the wood. He needed to rest, and his steed clearly needed refreshment.

`Welcome, Morcar Leofricsson...` Her smoothe voice seemed to rouse every sense within him. She seemed as if to come out of nowhere, though he could see she was near her house, as standing nearbye the Lady was her dwarf swineherd servant, Gurt.

Morcar bowed in the courtly way, `Lady Eadwine, I knew not that you held residence in Bernicia as well as the west lands.`

Stepping forth with her purple hood, the lady smirked with her hypnotic eyes staring deeply into his as she spoke, `There is much men know not of me, my lord. It does not fit a woman of.... my rank to interfere. But now, you are weary... come and seek rest.`

About to protest, the Earl looked at her for a moment. Her eyes... they seemed to be beckoning, mysterious. Her skin was so flawless and her hair so black and rich, one would hardly think she was a saxon lady at all if not her family`s ancient ties... Her voice was soothing, like the songs of the wind.
She reminded the Earl Morcar of strange faery women his mother spoke of, called dagas. Where they walked, she told him as he was put to sleep late in the evenings of his youth, flowers would grow.
Was this strange lady, another of his vassals of so many, such a folk... Shaking his head for a moment to return him to reality, the Earl stepped forth, taking her hand and walking with her into the hovel, the sorceress`s dwarf standing outside on guard for her.

Upon his leave felt like a dream, and he could hardly remember anything by the time he had arrived in the lands of his brother. Yet he would never forget that evening for as long as he lived...

Lord Morcar returns home from the accursed place...

England seems to be another favourite in the CK timeframe, but you do it justice despite the preceding AARs.

I like the interweaving of legend, cinema-like drama and plain history; England's always been a fertile setting for this. Also kudos for having chosen to not play the King, it's interesting to see the Leofricsons struggle for greatness.

Wow! Only read a bit so far but this is excellent. The sheer quality of some of the writing in these AARs is awesome, and yours is right up there with the best of them. Will follow it eagerly.

Also the pictures you used in the earlier posts were wonderful. Where did you find those? The ones in this last update, I must admit, have a certain 16th century feel to them.

Unless I'm mistaken these are screenshots from the BBC/Showtime TV series The Tudors. It's just started airing here in UK.
